BNE-CAN-SHA - A Cheap Dash with CZ - but will it be Nasty?

CASA states passengers aren't allowed to consume their own alcohol on board: https://www.casa.gov.au/standard-page/answers-passengers-frequently-asked-questions - not sure if that reflects the airlines' own conditions of carriage, or whether that's an Aussie law?

CZ once air bound are under China Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC)

Hence no usage of any device - even in Air Plane mode - that might transmit. Aka you will be told off using your iphone to take any picture, as that is prohibited under CAAC.

CASA wouldn't apply to CZ, MU, or any foreign carrier for PAX onbaord once airbound.

12.4 of the CZ conditions of carriage prohibit a passenger consuming any alcohol not provided by CZ: http://www.csair.com/en/orders/order/conditions/20110727.pdf

Thanks Mushez for the Trip Report. I am "hoping" to travel on CZ froom BNE-CAN in November (for work, and hoping for the QF codeshare for SC and points!) - hopefully at the pointy end, and also CAN-DPS. Gives me an idea what to expect - and I will set my expectations accordingly.

Number one thing I would say to anyone is not to expect to rely upon any device that is or might look like a cell phone when flying any Mainland Chinese carrier.

Using your phone to play music, if out and visual, will be noticed by crew and asked to switch off and put away.

Have got accustom to using my iPod for music when flying as that is fine. iPhone they are rather keen on and will tell you off, and stand over you until they see it be switched off.

I gather the FAs are too busy tracking down smokers!

That - or telling people off for operating their phones, and the arguments that it is in flight mode so is ok - only for FA to say no it isn't, it is against CAAC regulations of any usage of any device that might be able to transmit in any capacity at any point during flight and hence they must enforce it.

Travelled SYD-CAN-CKG return recently in CZ J.

I can confirm getting told by FA to turn off phone which was in flight mode when I attempted to take a photo on Sydney Opera House and bridge on descent toward the airport.

CZ was also interesting in terms of half full shot glass for wine and very rare refills, a gin and tonic with no ice, lemon or tonic, slow service, underwhelming food, missing the CAN-CKG connection, no J on CAN-CKG or CKG-CAN as sold, person a few rows back on CKG-CAN having a massive vomit that was not cleaned up so unpleasant smell all flight, no individual air vents on SYD-CAN return legs. Memorable flights!

WOW !! All bets are now off .........

Again is a CAAC (China Civil Aviation Authority) ruling - is not specific to CZ, but applies to all and every Mainland China Airline. MU are the same and enforce it much the same as CZ. Any device that has built into it the option to transmit, must be off gate to gate. Flight mode is not accepted.

...a gin and tonic with no ice, lemon or tonic
No ice is a cultural thing for China, they believe drinks should be room temperature or higher. To Chinese, if you have them chilled or with ice, you will become sick or sicker. They associate ice with illness. So rare to find ice in China and likewise on a Chinese Mainland Carrier.

missing the CAN-CKG connection,
Why the missed connection? Delay in your SYD-CAN flight? Or held up in immigration ques with no APEC card?
