Two week out bump. Haven't made any bookings yet, but this is still on.

Any recent opinions on Irish Murphy's or Mick Omalleys (wintergarden)

I've only had drinks in Irish Murphys. It's not quite as central as Mick O'Malleys, but that is splitting hairs.

How about the Bavarian Bier Cafe?

The beer cafe can be a little hard to get to for some people. Mick O'Malleys for me or even pig and whistle

G'day Mal, we met in London back in 2013 and I'll be visiting again from 27 July to 6 August. Just in case I don't have time to catch up this time, see you in BNE!

Sorry Mal, I have something else I need to attend so I should have caught up with you exclusively in London (I did check out the Virgin NY-LON bar at the O2 while I was there). I'll try to make it afterwards, depending on where you all are. Otherwise, I see that there'll be a dinner in London on 25 June 2016...

Are we going to be drinking and eating in a pub, or start at one spot and move somewhere else for food?

I only ask because my suggestion would be to head to a restaurant for dinner, say Vapiano's or similar, but only a suggestion. Very much looking forward to the week, for more reasons than one.

See when you have 3 threads you confuse everyone...

I am definitely out for this one... Maybe for Melbourne, Maybe for Sydney, Probably copper for everything.

Same location is preferable, just because I know the motivation to move to a second location diminishes after a while.

Not having been to one of these functions before, pencil me in & keep me updated on the venue....

regards

Rono

Maybe one of the locals should pick a venue.

We are flying in from CNS that afternoon and then out to Fiji the following morning so somewhere near the Hilton would be great for us.

Just home yesterday after doing "The Great Walk of Africa" for 14 days. Google it! It was simply wonderful, I've been anticipating it for the last 20 years, and am raring to do it again :D. A trip report will be forthcoming in due course.. We were charged by a cross matriarch elephant on the 1st day, and it just got better from then on.... ;)

Mick O'Malley's is a good venue. Easy access, good food, & they will reserve a table for us in "the Library". I proposed this venue a year or so ago when people wanted a change from the Mill, and we have had numerous BNE gatherings there since. (Although I must say I do like the Mill as well. ) 6:00 - 6:30 usually works well from a crowd point of view.

Mal, when I phone them to reserve, I ask them to have a reserved sign for "frequent flyers" on the table. Most who have replied to this thread know the venue, plus the table, but a few do not.

Do you have time to ring, or would you like me to?

Ok, Mick O'Malley's it is then. Let's make it from 6:30pm. Good location, but parking is a bit difficult (pretty much any venue is the same hassle parking wise in Brisbane city). While I still have an Aussie mobile (number hasn't changed from what it used to be) it will be switched off until I arrive in Australia, so they'd likely want a local number to accept a booking of that size. If you could book, that would be great! (From the responses, I'm thinking it will be between 10 and 15 people)

Will read up about the Great Walk, and look forward to hearing more.

Date : Monday 14th September 2015
Time : 18:30 onwards
Location: Mick O'Malley's Irish Pub - 171-209 Queen Street Basement Level Wintergarden Centre Brisbane City 4000

Many seem to come in by train, others work in the City. Or live in the City. It has worked out ok.
Where are you staying? Can I give you a lift? Anatol1 too? Email me & let me know.

You're awesome like usual! Thanks :) (And no worries re getting there for me - I'm staying near Roma St in an apartment)

I'm a maybe (shock, horror!!). We three are flying to the US on Weds 16th at sparrows, so I may need to be at home attending to laundry and pre-packing detail.
Well. Will the washing be done or will it wait until Tuesday :?:

Hey, I'm a very definite maybe as well!

I'm home on the GC for that date and as I'm OS for the Sunny coast dinner, CNS AFF meet and Christmas bash, it sounds like we should attend! Just have to run it past my +1 to see if she has any un-notified functions in the diary :D.
Well :?:
