Something seems to be wrong at BNE this morning.

There is at least 300 people trying to get through security and no one has moved for more than 5 minutes. All the staff are standing around looking at each other.

Now they have just moved about 25 people that had already passed the X-ray machines back through to this side.

Looks a bit keystone coppish at the moment.

I might have been too harsh on the security guys. Seems the hold up is immigration. No one is moving through there and there are lots of staff talking into their radios.

There are 37 flight crew I can see stuck here with us. Might be some delays.

They have just called aircrew only to go forward. Still no movement at the com migration desks.

Sounds normal to me. Quite often the queue to go through security stretches all the way upstairs right up to checkin row 10 which is at the far (city) end.

I experienced a similar thing last November when travelling on QF15. There were only 2 security queues open and from when I'd put my hand carry on to the conveyor belt to be scanned it took 25 minutes before I could go through the scanner.

This is because there is no separate air crew lane so just as I arrived so did the EY473 crew so they go to the front of the queue not to mention special assistance pax in WCHR's. Just when I thought I'd got the green light the QF15 crew arrive so again no other pax can get through until after the crew.

At least the QF15 were apologetic about it all unlike their snooty EY counterparts.

This particular issue again highlights what happens when Governments after a fast buck hand ownership of major infrastructure like airports over to private enterprise. You'd think BAC had a tarantula in their pocket when it comes to forking out for essential services like airport security & they then pretend they've got a world class airport.

It's defiantly an immigration issue. That line hasn't moved in the 19 minutes I've been in this particular spot. One of the staff at security said immigration computers are down.

There is now a group of 17 staff standing around talking about it. Wonder if they have a manual process?

There should be a manual process. Although our society is so reliant on tech these days that we don't seem to know what to do without it.

Just announced there has been a security breach and they are deciding whether to rescreen all passengers.

The shops opposite immigration are closing up so I would say so. Might be here a while.

Ouch. Hope they get through the backlog quickly (assuming they do re-screen).

A security breach as in a 90 year old pax accidentally being let through with a butter knife or immigration computers down so they can't check if someone has overstayed their visa.

I'm through and in the F lounge (well what constitutes an F Lounge in Brisbane). They rescreened all the passengers already in the terminal. They just announced they will call forward passenger in the order of the flights departure to be screened.

They QF staff told me that someone had got through with four pairs of scissors in their bag. Not sure how, but that is apparently what happened.

From the article: A Brisbane Airport Corporation spokeswoman said the security breach at the international terminal was detected just before 9am, when the scissors were found in a bag going through a screening point. It is believed that security were unable to find the owner of the bag, and it is not known if they have been tracked down.

Sounds like the owner of the bag just plain forgot it, or maybe got sick of waiting, here's an idea maybe - they were sick of waiting in a long queue or worried that they would miss their plane, or just ducked out to the loos??

Given that they have the scissors in their possesion, but not the owner of the scissors, how can this be a security breach? Possibly sloppy reporting, but a security breach is when something is discovered inside the sterile area, if scissors are found at security then I call that as security actually working and doing what it supposed to....

Just saw ts911993's update - would be interesting to see if it really was 4 pairs of scissors and a funny story about how they would have been detected - maybe a last minute dash back outside to get rid of the scissors and were detected then somehow?

While i'm here waiting for my rescheduled flight, Kudos to the QF staff who came into the lounge and worked their way around every passenger, updating us on rescheduled flights and asking about any connections we might have. They even offered an apology for the delay which was nice.

There have been a couple of funny announcements, for example, "could the passengers from flight xx_, who were already boarded, then de-planed and security checked, now reboard the aircraft"
