Hi Guys

We will be flying BNE to SYD domestic. Overnight Rydges Hotel, then SYD/JNB all on the same PRN. Normally when we do this flight we use Jetstar from MCY so collect our luggage and head to the hotel. But this time we are QF all the way.

As we are staying overnight can we pick up our luggage in SYD, then recheck it in the next day to JNB? Am I correct in presuming it isn't going to be checked in all the way from BNE to JNB.

Thanks.

Your bags will only be checked to SYD so you'll need to take them to the Rydges with you.

I'm doing this next week and was wondering the same thing. Good to know.

As your flight is within 24 hours and on same PNR you should be able I do either

That is check to SYD or all the way to JNB

Thanks for all your replies. I would also like to add that Rydges Hotel is perfect for an overnight stay. Good bistro too….good food, good service.

And if you make a refundable booking, then look closer to the time, there is often a very good non refundable price. Did this in April and saved about $50 or so.

Incorrect as SYD is not a 24 hour airport therefore bags should not be airside overnight (unless not avoidable).

I believe there is another trick with the Rydges at Sydney Airport, where it offers you an upgrade if you take your time doing the booking...

The only option will be bags to SYD due to the overnight. In fact your on-carriage flight SYD/JNB won't even be visible to the check in agent as it's the next calendar day so it wouldn't look any different to the booking for a pax flying only BNE/SYD.

It's entirely up to what each individual airport's policy is eg flying BNE/SIN on QF & the next day SIN/CMB on UL, your on-carriage flights would be visible so your bags would automatically be tagged to CMB unless you asked for them to be short tagged to SIN.

This is one of the reasons (along with discounts on room rates) I signed up recently as I intended staying at a couple of Rydges hotels during an upcoming visit to Sydney, and would like to stay at Rydges Sydney Airport if I could book the bl**dy thing ... but I can't, as my Priority Guest Rewards number keeps being rejected as invalid when trying to book through either the PGR or Rydges websites. There appears to be some sort of error on the account as the member number I log in with is completely different to the one that appears on my account details, have tried each one but both are rejected as invalid (even when they auto-populate on the booking form), despite being able to make a booking at another Rydges hotel through my account with no problems a few weeks ago. Quite frustrating and I'm still waiting to hear back from PGR customer service (they only have email contact, no phone number).

Yes, a window popped up offering me a room upgrade (subject to availability) if I continued with the booking. I was certainly taking my time completing the process - although not by choice! - for the reasons mentioned in the post above, so clicked on "yes" to accept the room upgrade offer but then couldn't complete the booking anyway ....

Just make the booking without your PGR number, and give the receptionist the card when you check-in, so they can attach your number to the booking.

I contacted Rydges and asked if I could do this, but same as funnymummy's reply, they said no - the members' rate was only applicable to online bookings.

Interesting, my Priority Rewards number also is now being rejected, I wonder how many members this is happening to and why. I haven't been offered an upgrade while making an online booking. I would also suggest eating at a restaurant in the International airport, rather than the hotel's bistro as the food was inedible when we stayed there in may, the chef wasn't interested in our complaint however the front office manager was gracious and took all the meal charges off our account.

I would also suggest eating breakfast across the road at the Coffee Club (surprisingly good) as Rydges breakfast was also inedible the only and only time we tried it.

Despite the food, the hotel is in an excellent position, the rooms and beds comfortable with very nice toiletries.

Willow88, thanks for posting - at least now I know it's not just me it's happening to! I wonder whether they've made some sort of change in the PGR database that has mucked things up? As I mentioned, I was able to make a booking with no problems a few weeks ago and that booking is still showing on my PGR account - the member number that appears on the email confirmation from that Rydges is the same one I log into the PGR site with - begins with an R and has 7 digits. However on the account dashboard, my member number shows as a completely different 10-digit number, so there's something odd going on.

The room upgrade offer only appeared when I was trying to book through the Rydges website, it didn't pop up at any time when I was trying to make the booking through the PGR website.

Hi Jurahn, my PGR also starts with R and has 7 numbers, I will probably have to contact Rydges about my card.

I wonder if the upgrade was a short campaign that they were running and is now discontinued
