Greetings heroes,

spent the the last few years accumulating a small mountain of points, and I've gone to cash them in for a J return flight BNE LAX, 20 Aug out 12 Sept returning.

Turns out, things have changed since the last redemption flight I booked ... And I can't find any availability of 'reward seat' rates. Ie, instead of 95,500 each way more like 330,000 each way.

Has the availability of reward seats evaporated?

apologies if this is covered at length elsewhere.

Safe flying,
CB

I think you'll find that all of the 'reward' seats are gone and the points noted on these dates are for 'any seat' rewards - which are significantly higher than the regular reward seats. From reading threads here, you really have to be quick to get the regular reward seats and many people book as soon as the seats come online (ie around 11-12 months out from departure date) to ensure they get the dates they want.

Just had a quick look and if you can move dates there is J availability (reward) for 19 August and there is still at least one seat available for your return date of 12 September in J (reward). Better be quick though.

Our August dates has reward fares available for exactly 3 days, then BAZINGA - all wiped from the webpage before I could upgrade.

Now pinning our hopes on a waitlist. As Doctor Smith would say "The pain. Oh, the pain..."

Availability has changed but not evaporated. About a year ago major travel bloggers in tne USA started pointing out the availability you mention, redeemable with such as Delta Skymiles.

Very soon much of the existing availability was snapped up with the same happening to new availability at 331 days - causing Velocity to rethink. For a while middle to late last year they basically disappeared with none being released.

Now they are around - but you need to be looking at weekdays and from 300 days out
