BNE-Moscow on OneWorld - how would you get there?

I'd believe it. My hotel is over $AUD300/night for a *single* room. And by the photos, that means a *single* bed!!!

I wonder what hotel you are staying at...300 AUD a night won't buy you a room in Ritz-Carlton but a double in Golden Ring or Holiday Inn Suschevsky Val - for sure, and it will even be under 300

Also, make sure you catch an Aeroexpress train from Domodedovo into town, takes 45 min and is very comfortable - or you risk spending up to 2.5 hours in traffic jams

Re seats with leg room: as WP you get free access to seats with more leg room. I'm flying home from Japan for a few days next week for a mid-assignment break and went onto to CX website using the CX reservation number and got good Y seats. For one request I had to email but got a very prompt reply and the seat I wanted

It's only barely near $AUD300/night on the cheapest nights. ROUB10,000-14,000/night over the week. Not the Ritz Carlton, but not a Holiday Inn (just being a bit cautious about mentioning the exact name on the internet, will gladly mention it once I'm back).

I wanted to take the train, but my colleagues in the Moscow office have insisted on organising a car/taxi for me.

and it's a big mistake - the road to the airport is being reconstructed. It's on the airport website - the front pages says "In relation to the repair works of the roadbed leading from Moscow to Domodedovo airport we would like to encourage you to arrive to the airport in advance in order to proceed preflight formalities. "
I'm saying nothing about normal traffic jams in the city - most days it just does not move at all, highly advisable to use the metro

so not sure about your Russian colleagues trying to put you in a traffic jam and a not so nice expensive hotel:shock:

Same with hotels - a quick search on www.booking.com shows lots of rooms availaible under $300 and they are in nice hotels

I stayed in the Metropol near the Bolshoi theatre. When I saw the pics of single rooms on their site, it looked basic for the price. But I ended up in a King Executive room for between 11,000-14,000ish /night. On the 14k nights, breakfast was included. In-room internet was hugely expensive, easier to use the free wifi in the lobby. Other colleagues notes interesting sights they saw in the evenings in the lobby, but I just waited til morning for iternet acces, so didn't get to personally see the sights. I think the hotel was quite nice for the price.
Car ride from Domodedovo was fine, ~1hr. Car ride to airport on Sat was horrid. Driver didn't show, office secretary was not contacted & I ended up taking hotel car to airport for 4,300. Got there at about 3:55 for a 4:50 flight. Let's say with the fun of Domodedovo & all the checks, I ran onto my flight with my belt in my hand. :/ If i go to Moscow again, I will catch a train to/from the airport. The car experience sucked for a few reasons.

I did warn you about going by car, didn't I?;)

Metropol is a nice hotel and the location is fantastic, did you happen to visit Bolshoy Theatre next door? It'd just got open after more than 6 years of renovations

No, the Bolshoi is still uder renovations. Looks like the grand opening is on 28 Oct. I did walk past it many times and enjoyed the outside.

Care to elaborate further?

Apparently "ladies of the night", to use a euphamism, seek male clients. I did not witness this, so can only go on the comments of my colleagues.

That's very common in Russia. You get little cards with girls phone numbers passed under your hotel room door. Or get a phone call in your room asking if you are looking for some company tonight

Not yet, but I was a good AFFer and took pics of many meals, both in-flight and on the ground. :) Shiuld be able to knock something together in a few days, maybe after Little Miss's bday on the weekend.
