BNE QF Business Lounge renovations

It will help when QF change the lounge access to prevent JQ pax accessing the QP ;), watch this space :)

I can’t see that being a good business move to keep business pax flying JQ. They’ll flock to the next cheapest thing with lounge access, and it wont be QF.

lol

So a program change to do that then. Can't see that being too popular for QF flyers forced on to JQ from say SYD. But I'll keep watching.

The lounge should only be for passengers paying a premium airfare and Platinums on cheap red e-Deals. ;)

I wonder if JQ passengers will be excluded from First Class lounge access as well? Some AFFers are not going to be happy with their First Class lounge runs ruined.

Alternately the rest of us prefer to keep Sydney-siders in Sydney so they don't infect the rest of Oz :!:
Hmmm. Keep dreaming....

That's a good point in relation to the J lounge as they would have to remove WP any time access to kick out those flying on JQ.

No, no, no.

There is a difference between access to the Qantas Lounge for a Qantas Club member flying JQ to restricting a Platinum from accessing Business Lounge when not flying Oneworld.

My remark was whether they would allow Platinums to visit First Class Lounge in SYD and MEL if flying on a $19 JQ ticket....

Ahh Ok. So they just need to remove the JQ from a couple of tables here and also from a footnate and also the whole section on Access for Jetstar passengers on this page:
Access to The Qantas Club lounges

Access for jetstar passenger doesn't seem to be in the T&C for either the FFP or the QC.

Opps I did get that. I shouldn't have included that bit of your post in my quote. Again just a case of removing the reference to Jetstar from the relevant table on that previously mentioned webpage.

So they do that across all sites just to move people out of the BNE QC (both types) after they open a JQ lounge at BNE.

Why, its got nothing to do with JQ access, you may not be aware that access to lounges for QP members/SG when flying JQ was only introduced sometime after JQ was started, at that time there was still WP anytime access.

Over the next few years starting with Brisbane, JQ will add lounges and bring in a JP (as opposed to QP) membership scheme to time them together for more revenue, this will take the pressure off the QPs while adding revenue to JQ, and WPs will be able to access either the JP or QP.

Do you really think they cancelled the QF J lounge in PER because WA Airports could not agree over terms and then announce a large expansion of JQ?? How much longer will HBA have a QP??

Completely correct - QP access was not part of the original JQ model back in 2003/2004.

However, they found that generally QP members would simply not travel JQ if there was a QF option, and if there was no QF option, then BFOD would come right into it. (There no DJ "Lounge" in those days)

It took only about 18 months to change.

As indicated recently on another thread, the little extras a QP can provide can make all the differences to travel.

I reckon it's probably a good idea to implement JP's (yes! Another new acronym!!) for JQ customers. They could be quite clever about it and build entry into the top 2 tiers of tix and for those below pay per access.

This would cover off business pax of who a huge majority would fly the more flex tix plus anytime WP would just then have a choice of lounges.

I suspect that JQ and QF have done alot of data mining to work out who is actually flying JQ to see how this could work.

I also think JQ has evolved significantly from launch and so have peoples opinions of them.

The timing of introducing access for those of jq doesn't much relevance. The fact is that access exists now. They would have to remove that access at all airports while they roll out the new JPs. Unless they do that opening a single JP at BNE is not going to take off much pressure IMO.

Further if it is going to make that much difference then why not just remove the access for those on JQ immediately. It doesn't appear to be in the T&C just a couple of tables on the website.

I don't think I was questioning the possibility of rolling out JPs so I have no comment on WA as it is not related to my point.

You are overlooking commercial realities alluded to by Serfty, specifically JQ needs lounge access to beat BFOD traffic, until the JP network is up then the status quo will remain as it has since JQ understood the fundamentals behind business traffic. As a business frequent flyer it makes a lot of sense, as the Chinese say, same same but different ;)

Am I overlooking that? I thought that was the point I was trying to make, bearing in mind the thread is about the BNE J lounge. Hopefully I never have to face same same..... ;)

edit: but same same in CNS was pretty good.

JQ will probably put a lounge once the satellite works are completed in that area, that will take some of the pressure off things.

Will that help get people out of the QP given QP members aren't allowed access to the JQ lounge at OOL. iirc

Well the renevations are now complete.

The business lounge looks a lot more spacious and it would appear that people are now spreading themselves out a bit. There were not many people sitting at the big desk/table in front of the bar and normally it is hard to find a spot there.

I tried to count additional seats added but it is hard to work out exactly where the old partition was and where it has been removed but it would appear the renovations have added somewhere between 60-70 seats to the BNE business lounge.

I will walk over to the Qantas Lounge a little later and see the damage from that side of the fence....

I am in the Qantas Lounge now but it is hard to gauge the effects of the reduction in space that was taken over by the business Lounge.

The change themselves look quite good and you would not know there was an area to the side if you have not been in here before. As mentioned earlier there is still a quiet area next to the old area.

Need to be in here at a busy time to fully gauge how the changes have impacted the Qantas Lounge. Perhaps next week as I have a flight early afternoon.

Thanks JohnK.

I always considered the old business lounge very squeezy at best so the renovations should be a huge improvement.

Awww, don't be like that... QF treats anywhere outside of SYD like a backwater, not just BNE...

It's a well-known fact that there are only two places in Australia - Sydney, and the Bush.

The BNE Business Lounge was certainly not so squeezy this morning. Monday mornings are normally the busy time for BNE and there were plenty of seats when I arrived around 7am until I left at 8:15am - likely the peak time for a Monday morning.

Was there myself on Sunday evening - quite a few people in there, but not full to overflowing at least. :)

I stopped in quickly ~7:15pm on Sunday evening and most people had cleared out by then as there were only a few flights left.
