BNE they used the oldest, coughpiest Aircraft - Do they still?

Re: Singapore Airlines

The fact that the meal I wanted was not available, was not the end of my world. The point I was making that SQ charge a premium ex BNE but don't deliver a premium product.

I travel to Europe almost monthly and have done so a few times on SQ and have been astonished at the difference in product quality between the BNE-SIN leg and SIN-LHR. Its at the point where I won't use them at all.

I would have thought if you're flying that regularly that a Corporate J Fare on QF would be just as economical (if not more) than the standard SQ J fares

As for the aircraft, they're all only a few years old, I haven't seen the seats (I haven't been bothered driving up from the GC to inspect) but expect they're not what you previously experienced.

Re: BNE they used the oldest, coughpiest Aircraft - Do they still? Weber Seats Flat 10

Am on SQ256 9.1.12, will let you know what I see. I am not in J (though) so will do my best to report.

Seats in J were Weber seats, which go to flat, but only to within about 10 degrees of horizontal.
The service in Y was very good, will have to avoid the Seafood Refreshment in future, tough, tasteless prawns, and little taste in the scallop.
Cabin Manager was nice enough to let me try while we we disembarking. Pretty nice, but I think I understand some other comments about having to fit your feet in a box.

AC power in Y was a big plus, even charged my laptop from 85%, and I didn't have another pax beside me.

hmm.. I go away for a few weeks flying SQ & Silkair around Asia and then find all this grumbling.

I think all airlines in J will do an exceptional job for the premium pax. We have to have realistic expectations.

However I've had two flights which have been exceptions with SQ/MI when things haven't gone to plan and the crew still deliver good service.

One MI flight our of SIN on 2 Jan was delayed by 3 hours. We and all pax were directed to alternate meals and options on the ground as well as being fully informed. The SilverKris and Gold lounge both new what was going on and kep the pax in the lounges individually updated. Back on the aircraft, the crew had been changed (as the first crew were out of hours) and everyone was fresh. It was a pleasant afternoon flight.

The real SQ service came for me on the overnight flight home to BNE on 9 Jan. Earlier in the afternoon I had picked up some dodgy food bug and I could feel the effects coming. It was a decision between boarding or just moping around SIN late at night trying to find accom while feeling down. I also had a BNE meeting at 9am so I really had to be on the aircraft. Needless to say the inevitable happened and I had a fairly bad flight. The crew were amazing. They had me supplied with regular cups of camomile tea, my bottled water was always available, cabin toilets were cleaned after me, i had extra blankets, extra pillows etc etc etc. While I couldn't enjoy the food or wine, they certainly made sure I was cared for. They were doing things far beyond my reasonable expectations.

Bring on another year of SQ travel for me.
