Boeing jet sets flight record
A Boeing 777 plane has broken the world record for the longest flight for a commercial jet.

The aircraft carrying 35 passengers has landed at London's Heathrow Airport after a 20,000-kilometre flight east from Hong Kong.

It flew over the northern Pacific, then over the northern part of the United States, before crossing the Atlantic.

The flight lasted 22 hours and 45 minutes and ended 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

It beat the existing non-stop passenger airline record - also achieved by a Boeing 777 - by several thousand kilometres.

When fully operational, the Worldliner will be able to carry 301 passengers on a non-stop service between Australia and New York.

The Boeing 777 will be able to fly from Australia to New York non-stop.

I think it's just the ABC mindset - Sydney is Australia, didn't you know? To add to that, nothing exists outside the Ultimo-Leichhardt-Newtown triangle.

What part of Australia is irrelevant. From some point in Australia to New York , the journey can be done. It is not stating that it can be done from all points in Australia

Well this record flight was over 20,000km or almost 14,500 miles. Its only 18,712KM or 11,627 miles from Perth to New York, so I would epxect in an easterly direction it could be done, but probably not ecconomically or with a full load of 300 passengers.

But surely those 300 people per day wanting to travel between Perth and New York and more than happy to stop in Australia (read Sydney) on their way to the big apple.

For some, being on the same plane for 22 hours may be appealing -

However, I dont think that i could cope being airborne for that long, and i usually travel First or Business. I would die in Economy.

First, business or economy I think that would be pure torture in the textbook sense of the word. Way way too long. Give me an hour on terra firma somewhere along the way I am sure it appeals to some people though. To each his own. :?

22 hours on a flight does not appeal. That said, doing two legs of 24 hours plus a 2 hour stopover in humid airport doesn't rate high on my list of things to do either. The first may be the lessor of two evils.
