Is that right? I just checked now after reading this thread and things are still pretty cheap in my opinion.

PER-MEL return, 21-22nd January, $353.16 + 13,800 points in J

I find that incredibly good value. I think its cheaper in cash than my J rewards ticket at Christmas.

For me, valuing my VFF points at 3c each its an equivalent cost of $767. On a 737, even in J, thats probably getting close to my personal limit. I'd pay more for the A330 service.

Have just checked again and you're right! It appears when I checked a couple of weeks ago, I was either mistaken, there was a glitch, or something has changed back.

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP.

Shall be booking a couple of flights tonight I would say!

If I book one of these J fares with points and cash before 18 Jan, what is the penalty if I decide to cancel later ?

Have a look at the T&C on the booking site.

As I recall, there is no fee to cancel or change the booking. Changed bookings will however be charged for any fare difference and refunds have their own issues which are worth reading about.

All I could find is this:
16.18 Once an Air Reward redemption booking is made and tickets are issued, the ticket is non-refundable. Changes may be made if seats are available subject to payment of any difference in fare and associated fees. The change fees applicable will be the fees published on the Virgin Australia Website on the date you request the change. Points will be forfeited for any ticket which is unused (in whole or in part).

My interpretation is that once you book a DJ award is that you can't cancel it and get a refund...Is that correct?

Looks like I was wrong. You can get a refund in cash and points so long as you didn't pay with a credit note from another virgin airfare. Looks quite flexible, as you'd expect a full revenue J ticket to be in fact.

Thanks...looks like you got that by doing a dummy booking:idea:.Hmmm....I'm thinking of booking 2x J return awards Syd to Per before the increase but there is a 50:50 chance may have to cancel, hence my query.

I changed a J fare which was points plus pay for no cost either cash or points. But the fares were the same. Pretty sure your responsible to pay the difference in fare costs

But prices are indeed going up!

Mid-November, I booked MEL-(737)-xSYD-(330)-PER in Business for 6900 VP's and $178.

Hmmm 6900 + 178 x2 = 13800 & $356 thats down compared to $353.16 + 13,800 points:mrgreen:

My bad -

Note my PER-xSYD-MEL trip back cost $228 and 6900.

Yes, $228 x 2 + 13,800 is what mine cost too. So its now cheaper??? Must be a seasonal thing.

I wonder if we won't see really any price movement on the transcon flights then? VA's statement suggests we only have J from PER and have been redeeming against J fares for at least several months ... sounds like this is it .... I can see a lot of DJ flights in my future if so.
