The booking is owned by the person whose name is on the booking. From a privacy perspectIve we are unable to change or discuss the booking with anyone else.
I hope this clarifies the situation.

You know this is a bit strange. What if you buy tickets for your employee (so it must be in their name) and pay for it with your corp CC. What is to stop said employee cancelling the ticket and making off with the money? Surely any refund should only be able to go back to where it came from ie reversal of original credit card transaction? Any surely the person who has the right to charge the card should be able to cancel the transaction and get a refund?

Could be said with similar scenario in regards to car hire, hotels etc... could be some sort of unjust loophole in this.. Look forward to what was resolved (if any) in regards to the air tickets though..

Yeah, it doesn't ring true to me either. I get most corporate flights done in my name but via a PA who then deals with a corp travel agent. I never need to be personally involved for changes, cancellations, upgrades or anything, travel agent and PA are able to handle all this.

If the airline in question is being ridiculous on this point I'd try a charge-back ... seems like uncertain ground to me but I'd give it a go. At the very least it will get the attention of the airline for some decent negotiation ... and if they don't care enough to answer the "show cause" in the charge back demand then I win anyway.

I've had a 3rd party company organise my travel through their corporate TA and changes can't be made by the traveller. All have to be ok'd by the TA.

It's really not that complex. If it is refunded the fare has to be returned to the credit card. This is pretty much the case for all CC payments. The problem will be getting the refund. Firstly, because generally cancellation puts the fare into a credit, in the name of the original passenger. Secondly, as the booking was not made by a TA only the named passenger can cancel and or refund the fare.

So while any refund would normally go back to the CC, the OP doesn't have the ability to initiate that process.

I see, thanks for the explanation medhead I admit I didnt read the whole thread properly so didnt have my head around all of the facts. Will be interested to hear the outcome.

cheers

As the classic saying goes, London to a brick, we will never hear of the outcome. As a person who travels at least monthly through Australia and around quarterly to SE Asia for business, all my bookings are done via my assistant in my name personally so I get the FF points and paid for on my corporate platinum card. I can make changes to the flight as long as it is through the work email or company letterhead. Any refunds go straight back to the credit card. Being a banker for the past 34 years, this has been the case for all the time I have been in my current role which is 14 years. There are no changes to this if the payment was made by CC. If it was made by cash or cheque (what's a cheque? you say) then the funds will be refunded by a cheque from the airline made payable to the company. I know that this is the case with QA, SA, CP, Virgin, BA, MAS, JAL, Emirates, SAA, as these are all airlines we have used and had refunds on. It is also clearly spelled out in any agreements we have set up and these are agreements are set up by the airlines mentioned.
