TBH, I get very good rates with AVIS via a corp code (work and leisure codes). It was quoting me half the price mentioned a few posts up. I also just completed a 10d one way CHC to ZQN for $900 (including ER).

They gave me a hybrid that did 1000kms per tank (handy since we knocked up 2400 kms!) and petrol was NZ$2.60 p/l 😳
Coincidentally just completed an 8 day one way DUD to ZQN for a similar rate - $650 or so including ER. Wish I had a hybrid though that petrol price was a killer.

Shame we can't share corp codes anymore as I have noticed in the last few years they ask for proof more often than not, particularly at capital city airports. Another gouging data point - two week Prado rental from HBA in early Jan went from $6k to $1.5k with corp code.

Thanks for the input everyone, appreciate it and am amazed at the difference in pricing.....Seems I am better off using a third party website!

also try other rentals directly (Hertz, Budget, Sixt, Europcar etc). There are some weird sweet spots out there where some are much better than others. But absolutely no rhyme nor reason as to why….
