Hi all

Hoping for a bit of quick help. A couple of weeks ago, I booked myself a J class ticket SYD-JNB for June / July next year. Now here's where things (ie my memory) get a bit vague...

I booked a Business Sale (I class) fare which I think cost me around $6,200. I am pretty sure though that it has not yet been ticketed -there has been no debit to my credit card and I haven't received an itinerary. I did use a gift voucher to escape the $70 credit card fee.

Anyway, I was now a bit surprised to see that the fares have dropped to around $4,200. Looking at the terms it seems I can cancel for a fee of $600 and re-book at the lower fare. However, I was wondering whether I could avoid the $600 cancellation fee since the flights haven't been ticketed yet? Any other ways to reduce / eliminate the change fee?

Please let me know if you need any more detail.

Thanks in advance!

The most obvious way that I can see, is stop the charge on your card. I'd call them ASAP (like now). I assume you have a reciept and/or email from QF? Then re-book.

I have only just received itinerary for booking I made last month. Very slow.

Changes to a classic award from last month have also not yet been ticketed.

I'm pretty sure you cannot do this... you have entered in to a contract, agreed to pay, and you have made payment. You are bound by the terms of the credit card which don't allow you to back out of stuff just because you feel like it. In any event, stopping the payment won't stop it going on to your card. QF will still charge the card and the card issuer won't refund it.

The OP should call QF, ask if it's been ticketed. If it hasn't, ask if they can stop the process. Otherwise, the $600 - while painful - is at least worth it for the avings.

Agree with this. So I called Qantas and lady told me she had cancelled without any charge! :) She said my credit card has not been charged and so the hold will fall away in a day or two. I used a $50 gift voucher which she said would be re-instated. I can't use it at the moment - might need another call to Qantas.

Thanks for the replies
