Booking luggage from Zurich to Sydney

Has anyone had the opportunity to book their luggage straight thru from Zurich via Frankfurt to Sydney.
We will be flying Swissair or Lufthansa from ZRH to FRT then picking up Qantas to Sydney later that evening.
We certainly dont want to have to pick up our luggage in FRTand rebook it again if we can avoid it.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Will the SR or LH flight ZRH/FRA be booked at the same time as the FRA/SYD QF flight or will both flights be in the same booking and on the same ticket?

You would have a better chance of having your bags checked through if this was the case.

If flights will be booked separately it would then be up to SR or LH if they are prepared to interline the bags to QF despite the flights not being in the same booking.

Ex Australia QF would only interline bags to LH or SR if those flights were on the same booking. The only time they will interline bags for flights on separate bookings are if the other airline concerned is a member of the One World Alliance.

Unfortunately the tickets will be separate as we have had our qF tickets for months and now deciding how best to get to FRA hence the question.
I guess it will be just luck at the checkin as you suggest.
