I managed to book to 2 classic award J seats in Feb next year Syd to Eze on one ticket with Qf points:
QF 27 Sydney 12:20PM Santiago 10:45AM
KL 702 Santiago 12:40PM Buenos Aires 2:35PM
(Assume 1hr 55 min transit at Scl T2 to T2 is OK; MCT is apparently 65 mins)

My Q is related to booking the return award from Eze later; I cannot use Eze as the origin so can't book online myself but if I can find flights eg Eze=Scl on La, Scl-Syd on La / Qf using the multicity tool as per the post below, I'm assuming the QF Plat desk in Hobart can book for me? TIA.

That’s correct. The reason why you cannot book online is because Qantas does not have an office in Argentina (or Brazil for that matter). Calling them up on the phone allows the agent to ticket you through the Sydney office.

If you have need to travel anywhere domestically before next Feb you can easily get around this by booking a multi city that includes a domestic leg first i.e. SYD-MEL+EZE-SCL-SYD, then taxes are calculated in AUD and easily bookable online yourself

The SYD-MEL can be months before the EZE and since all domestic fares are priced one-way anyway you can buy a cash return fare MEL-SYD separately.

Thanks for the suggestion

You will have to book over the phone unless you can use the multi-city workaround.

Last time I tried this (booked EZE-SCL-AKL) it took me 7 calls to QF before I got someone who could actually see the availability I wanted. It was an awful experience, to be honest - but I never did manage to get HBA.

If you get Hobart, should be easily done.

FWIW I did try to use the multi-city workaround to book those flights. Had a KLM flight I planned to take as flight 1, and EZE-AKL as flight 2 in my search, but got an error at the payment page.

Getting close now. Cruising February to Antarctica on Scenic Eclipse and putting final touches on preparation. A few questions. We are traveling from Maroochydore to Sydney to Buenos Aires with an aircraft change in Santiago. (Qantas to KLM). I have looked on Qantas website and gave up waiting on hold on the phone after an hour. Will bags be checked through to Buenos Aires. We are on the same booking PNR so suspect they will. Second question. Has anyone had issues with not getting a transit visa for the Santiago transit. I know we are not leaving airport but if flight is delayed out of Sydney we only have a short connection in Santiago. If we need to stay overnight in Santiago and don’t have a visa it may get tricky. Anyone with experience with delayed flights or do we take the no visa risk ( I know risk is a personal choice, looking if anyone has experienced this). Last question, another personal choice I know but wondering if anyone has gone to the effort for travel vaccinations when traveling to Buenos Aires then onto Antarctica. Thanks.
@Atleastonce Did you have any issues with your QF to KL transit at Scl? Im on one ticket like you with 1 hr 55 min transit at Scl and am wondering what would happen if Qf 27 was late and I missed the KL connection to Eze. Did they check bags all rhe way through? How long does it take to physically do the transit at Scl? Is there a security sceen and immigration check at Scl transit? At this stage I don't have a visa for Chile...should I get one?
Thanks

Not Sth Am, but I had to call last week for a CX flight PNH-HKG and sorted first go, added to an existing QF J CR HKG-SYD (saving $$$ for an o/n in HKG). They waived the booking and change fee because I couldn’t do it online.

You similarly can’t search starting from Phnom Penh but easy to check seat availability HGK-PNH-HKG (or BKK-PNH-BKK for PG flights etc).

For SthAm, I search SCL-xx_-SCL return (or multi-sector) for seat availability - which is usually pretty good at least for whY seats (and you still get lounge access with LA if QF SG or higher).

I have flown LA from Melbourne to Florianopolis, Brazil (connecting in Santiago) all booked on one ticket and can share my experience here. You get off the plane and then you walk down a long corridor. There is a connection desk just before immigration. If you are doing international to international, you'll walk past immigration (which is to the side) and continue walking until you reach transit security where they will scan your boarding pass, check your passport and x-ray yourself and bags. The process here is very quick, I suspect it took maybe 20 minutes at most as there were no immigration formalities, and because the security lane was just for transit passengers.

So in theory 1 hour and 55 minutes should be enough. To your points about whether luggage would be through checked and whether you will receive all of your boarding passes, the answer to that question is yes provided it is all booked on the same reservation:

In this case KLM is considered a non-one world partner. The Star beside it indicates that this is only applicable if they have what is called an interline agreement which means that the carriers have an agreement with each other to handle each other's bags and passengers when booked as one reservation. To answer that question, we now consult the KLM partner page on Qantas which reveals that yes they do have an interline agreement:

This is indicated by the check mark for the row baggage through check from Qantas operated flight and boarding pass through check from Qantas operated flight.

To your last point which is immigration. Even though you are not entering the country, you will need to see what the requirements are for transiting Santiago. In my case, I got lucky, I'm Canadian so I don't require a visa to enter Chile and thus did not need to do any homework for transit as generally if you are allowed to enter a country visa free, you most certainly can transit the country visa free too.

Last Monday, I was on QF27 connecting to the KLM flight onwards to EZE. Due to storms in Sydney, the flight took off late and the onwards connection was missed.

On arrival at SCL went to the transfer desk (just before transit security), and they had a new boarding pass waiting for me for a LATAM flight a couple of hours later with a food voucher (which I didn't use as I went to the lounge).

I didn't have a bag checked, but it seems like they are pretty well versed at dealing with this and I wasn't the only person in this situation.

Security line was done in under 5mins and I didn't go through immigration for the transfer. I didn't have a Chilean visa.

Fantastic information....exactly the information I wanted to know. Thanks for posting!
