I have booked rooms for my family members as award nights without any issues, and they have posted as stays on my account. I always add them as additional guests. IN my case they have always had the same surname,, no problem with guest identification.

Last time was for my daughter's wedding night. I even called the hotel the night before to let them know they would be arriving latish and may have just happened to let it slip that the booking was for my daughter and her new husband following their wedding ceremony. The hotel were very happy with the situation, they enjoyed the benefits of my Ambassador membership and the stay shows in my account profile. But it was an award booking so no points or stay credit received, obviously and as expected.
