Hi Guys,

Was just wondering if anyone knows if you can book the SYD - MEL sectors of the UA flight that comes down from LAX?

Just thinking it would boost my UA M+ account by doing the occasional weekend on it.

Thanks

J

Not possible. Cabotage rules exist which do not allow them to sell tickets for "domestic" flights by themselves.

Certainly cannot sell them as standalone.

They can sell them as part of an international routing.

So in theory could I twist it, so that if I had a United SYD - LAX reservation for a few months in advance, I could book it or does it have to be on the same reservation?

Neither united.com nor unitedairlines.com.au sites appear to allow you to book stopovers in Oz eg MEL-SYD-SFO with the two flight sectors on different days. You might want to call United to see if they allow it.

BTW, fare difference for MEL-SFO (via) SYD and SYD-SFO is about A$300 in Y. For flights in July.

I've had a stopover in SYD offered on an oversold flight through to LAX...but, other than that case, I don't think it's possible.

Would be worth doing though, the flight is 3/4 empty. I wouldn't fly to LAX again with them though :!:

Yeah I don't want to fly with them stateside ever again, I have made that stupid mistake one too many times. I actually was given a voucher by them when I was over in the states. Which is in part why I am looking for ways to spend it closer to home.

You could boost your UA M+ account by flying to AKL on a AirNZ service .Be sure to check that the fare basis allows for MP miles accrual.

Prices can be cheap sometimes on this sector but people have been caught by some fares not giving miles.

Have they even installed personal IFE like most other carriers did 10 years ago?

I have always wondered this as well. But someone above is saying it is possible if it links in to another international booking. Does this mean if I can fly the following:

UA MEL-SYD-MEL
TG SYD-BKK-SYD

Where this becomes usefull is if redeeming a 1st award through US Airways DM from Melbourne where there are no 1st carriers.

So, possible or not?

You can't do this in the GDS. Award not sure but I would guess no.
