Certainly cannot sell them as standalone. Not possible. Cabotage rules exist which do not allow them to sell tickets for "domestic" flights by themselves.
So in theory could I twist it, so that if I had a United SYD - LAX reservation for a few months in advance, I could book it or does it have to be on the same reservation?
Would be worth doing though, the flight is 3/4 empty. I wouldn't fly to LAX again with them though :!:
I've had a stopover in SYD offered on an oversold flight through to LAX...but, other than that case, I don't think it's possible.

I have always wondered this as well. But someone above is saying it is possible if it links in to another international booking. Does this mean if I can fly the following:
UA MEL-SYD-MEL
TG SYD-BKK-SYD
Where this becomes usefull is if redeeming a 1st award through US Airways DM from Melbourne where there are no 1st carriers.
So, possible or not?
