A question for those with "dual citizenship" - i.e. AA and QF. Does the AA lounge access issue affect you if you are flying on an AA ticket (with miles accruing to AA), but can flash a QF WP / OWE card? How about if flying on a QF ticket with the miles accruing to AA?
I have never had any issues showing my QF Lifetime Gold card along with my boarding pass showing my AAdvantage EXP status for entry into AAdmirals Club lounges on domestic AA flights. No questions or comments, just a welcome to the lounge and presented with a few drinks chits.

I switched to AAdvantage a number of years ago, and wished I had done it when beginning lots of travel for work in 2001. To think I would have had 2mm (LTP) by now - sigh.
I have thought about chasing LTG on QF, but I can't see much benefit since it would take quite a number of years and I would miss out on the excellent burn rates on AA which means that going F to Europe every year is possible for holidays, which I probably wouldn't be able to manage under the QF scheme for two people. I also have lifetime QP which effectively gives the backup necessary - both for QF flying and accessing Admiral's Clubs in the US.
The final benefit is the fact that B fares earn 1.5EQP. We have a strict economy travel policy at work now (the trade off being that I'm allowed to have no overnight flights where possible), but I'm able to have B fares. Also buying them out of HKG means I can throw in a CNS return trip for nothing - great for escaping the Melbourne winter; and I get to save a fair bit of money in the travel budget.

Actually its confusion with UA, that have named aircraft after their passengers as well as other people they consider significant including employees, in particular the 777 fleet:

N766UA NANCY J. MEYER CUSTOMER
N767UA SAM SOTOODEH CUSTOMER
N768UA MARCELO AMODEO CUSTOMER
N769UA D. TIMOTHY TAMANY CUSTOMER
N770UA THOMAS R. STUKER CUSTOMER
N771UA FRANK GRIFFITH CUSTOMER
N772UA MARY BETH LOESCH CUSTOMER
N773UA RICHARD H. LEUNG CUSTOMER
N774UA GREG MILANO CUSTOMER
N775UA SCOTT A. NEUMAYER CUSTOMER...
One of these people is a reasonablly active FT member; he flys 700K+ miles per year, a significant proportion of it Transpacific to/from Oz.

A "Real" Up-In-The-Air GS - FlyerTalk Forums

There's enough information in that thread to work out which aircraft. :D

I recently signed up to AAdvantage to take AAdvantage (...i feel dirty for doing that lol) of the excellent mile sales + bonus they had (or have) going. You can't beat the redemption rates! (Just as long as you can get availability, of course..)

Got my little flimsy card last week...It looks better than a bronze ff card though!!

Note the August AA miles sale is 3K bonus for ever 10K purchased on purchases of up to 40K.

nb -the maximum one can purchase per year is 40K. (So, 52K AAdvantage miles for USD1105)

The latest miles purchase deal allows for 52,000 for USD1105 ( 3,000 bonus for every 10000 purchased ). Enough for 3 one way transtasman business class trips and 8000 short of a flight to Europe in business

i'm new to the flying game and am likely to remain an infrequent self funded flyer for the most part, in the near future at least (can't wait for overseas conferences once i progress a little career-wise)

AAdvantage seems rather attractive especially given the ability to purchase miles if a top up is needed

a quick question - Jetstar (for e.g. starclass) can earn QFF points ... can this be credited to AA?

i've just hoped for way too much haven't i...

Is it fair to say that an AAdvantage membership downunder is of most benefit to those travelling in J and F? My undestanding is that AA earning doesn't apply to the cheaper Y tickets (eg. E, N, O and maybe Q). How many AA miles would one earn flying PER-MEL in QF economy (say a red e-deal and a super saver)?

....and O class is usually the fare bucket for the cheapest Red E-Deals during sales. (Normally they seem to be E class). So when travelling it is a matter of checking the code before entering the requisite FF number AA or QF.

You also need to look at the minimum miles guarantee and what status credits you may receive to determine if you should chose Qantas or AA.

Looking at the list of published fares for PER-MEL , other than for N/Q classes ( the cheapest fare base is O which is eligable ) would earn

841 as a base member
1052 as a Gold member
1682 as a Platinum or Executive Platinum member

If booked in flexi saver or higher the earnings are doubled

The long domestic routes is where the earnings are not as good. Once one has status, then the short routes are pretty much as good for earning as on QF .

When considering redemption costs, even at 50% earning it is good for premium redemption compard to QFF given the lack of fuel fines and that QF premium awards are often 2 times or more expensive in pooints

e.g. SYD-LHR is 64/96/128/192k points plus fuel fines using QFF vs 45/na/60/80k with no fuel fines using AA points

On a short route such as SYD-MEL, as a Platinum member I would get 500 min guarantee plus 500 status bonus giving 1000 , same as QFF
In business , the earning is 1049 credited to AA vs 1250 to Qantas. If can get Platinum , then the earnings on short routes are pretty much as good as get on QFF

Dave

As serfty and openseat say above, "O" class is ok. Many old and new economy codes however (eg. N and E ) do not earn. Here is the relevant AA page - ? for AA earning on QF.
Hmm it seems I am unable to post the link for you on this forum. So, go to AA.com, then AAdvantage, then Airlines, then Qantas.

Actually, the best "value" fare class for AA status earning (compared with QF) is actually B class for international flights. On QF these earn as discount economy, while on AA they earn the same as full Y, J and F fares.

QF is generally easier for earning status when flying on J and F fares. With QF, an F fare earns 6 times the status credits than B or below (assuming international), while on AA F down to B all earn the same (1.5 EQP per mile).

Ah well AA got me by 2k miles! I got 50k for 1105USD

Doesn't matter so much, I managed to pinch 10k PC points Dad had dormant in his account and get them over to my AAdvantage when they had the 25% bonus for hotel program transfers going, so I have 52,500* in my account, or 3 flights in J, and from Perth that is an excellent price.

Great value, even for a student whose bank account will take a while to recover!

*When the bonus 10k miles from the promotion I bought under posts

I just tried to find out how many points were needed for SYD - SIN in J, on the AA site but could not.

How do you work it out?
