I won’t repeat the story here but if interested I’ve posted it here: The totally off-topic thread

It concerns one boat, and five 4WD and boggy sand. Very funny.

So after the wash out when the rain cleared we went for an explore of Lorne. Reminds me of Coolum on the Sunshine Coast.

It’s a very well designed jetty - think it must be quite new. Saw quite large stingrays gliding underneath - guesstimate a span of maybe 2 metres.

This one tried to camouflage in sand.

You home yet or spending NYE with the Lorne ‘yobbos’?
Yesterday we travelled from Lorne to Coonawarra which is home to so many wonderful wineries. But first the Lampoons Great Ocean Road Trip which was slow, miserable, busy, wet and windy. This is summer? Roads were awful.
We travelled along the GOR where the fires a couple of years ago went down to the water. They have placed larged canvas style sheeting on the hillside to encourage regrowth. The trees are still scorched.

The weather closed in again at Apollo Bay so we went straight through. This was at 10am.

Drove through to Port Campbell and parked a couple of times but the huge carpark at the 12 apostles was bedlam so we passed.

Then on to the Arches where it was cold and blowy.

Lots of foam as the water surged through.

We drove on through rain back through to SA and passed through Penola. Penola is the birthplace of St Mary MacKillop, Australia’s only saint. We drove through to Coonawarra 10 k’s away and planned to return on Sunday.
That afternoon we walked through the wineries that are everywhere here. Newly planted vines.

Grapes are about 8 weeks off harvesting.

Ah, so not one of your better road trips then?
Too many tourists

It was fine. Something different. Weather was the disappointment as it kept us in the car instead of walking and recharging.
