BP's Mystery Summer Roadtrip bonus is a little underwhelming

If you are like me - you probably get BP offers in your inbox which you activate and don't give a second thought to... If you happen to roll up to a BP and trigger the offer then great but if you don't then you don't.

Well I've recently moved to within walking distance of a BP and I quite like ice cream so I decided to make a concerted effort to 'unlock' the 4 stage bonuses of the current Mystery Summer Roadtrip by going for walks over Christmas and buying icecream.

I'm posting this here for future refence so anyone who is interested can get an idea what the 'mystery' element of a BP bonus looks like.

To be fair, 6x points isn’t all that bad an offer, as long as (a) you purchase premium unleaded petrol, which means that in effect you’re getting 12x points, and (b) you’re one of the dwindling number of Australians whose focus is on collecting Qantas points. But it’s a pain that even to get to the 6x points offer, you have to make 3 purchases first.

I just see it as getting something, for doing nothing different to my normal buying patterns. Although sneaking in a Connoisseur Salted Caramel & Macadamia ice cream last weekend on my way to Bunnings was worth it to cover off the 3rd step.

I wonder if the QF tie up with BP has resulted in substantially increased revenue and profitability for BP?

From a fuel perspective I only use BP anyway as I have never had ‘bad fuel’ and their claims of superiority (for Aus) have withstood scrutiny (no doubt).

I think I’ve earned a few free flights (if you think in those terms) to date so no complaints from me.

I was on a driving holiday, so the first 3 stages were easy enough to achieve.

Will achieve the 4th stage this weekend.
