Virgin Australia to lease more 737s

I believe VA have stated they are receiving another 2 ex MI planes. This was before today, so possibly a few more I guess?
It was rumoured they were getting some more but the quantity wasn't specified and VA haven't publicly commented about this.

There's a good 10 years of life on those aircraft, so not a bad way to increase the fleet and/or get rid of the older planes in the fleet.
7 of the 9 737 aircraft at REX range between 9 to 15 years old.

The ex SQ and ex Jet are the youngest. Whilst the "youngest" ex-VA 1.0 has at least 5 maybe 6 years of RPT left at most of these x3 ex-VA were to return to VA 2.0

Thanks. My apologies for not be clearer, I meant the SQ lease aircraft. Weren't some of the REX aircraft (ex VA) often in the shop - or was that just a perception problem?

It was reported the pair of 20 year old ex-VA 1.0 were the culprits, considering they were in the shop in their.final years at VA.

Rumours reported on the that pilots forums that VA are set to have another 4x 737-800NG on their way from the lessors in the next 4-5 months.

If true (also taking into consideration most of the non-VA ex-REX 737s have already returned to lessors) I wonder where VA will be sourcing them from?

On a relate note: Out of the 6 ex-VA that spent time at REX
RQP (14 Years Old): Returning to VA by end November
REX (14 Years Old): Returning to VA by end November
PAG (14 Years Old): Stored at MZJ
RYU (21 Years Old): Stored at MZJ
RQG (20 Years Old): Scrapped at ASP
RQC (21 Years Old): Stored ADL, and is noted as returning to lessor Castlelake (off to USA shortly).

Out of the REX units, safe to say it'll be only the 2x units out of the 6 returning to VA with most of the remainder already at MZJ or in the case of RQG, scrapped.

More SQ frames, I think they are about to retire them all within the next 6 months?

VH-REX is due into Melbourne tomorrow on delivery to Virgin.
To be fair it's been due in the last couple of days but pushed back twice due to maintenance. Once it arrives in Melbourne then fly as VA9902 to Wagga as mentioned above (maybe a low fly of the Rex training centre on the way through).

VH-REX would assumably be undergoing reconfiguration not long after delivery into the Y-heavy new slimline seats config.

The same assumably goes for VH-RQP when that gets delivered (formerly known as "Godfrey's Jet" (BZG) in its first run with VB/VA 1.0).

Not all aircraft are receiving new Y seats in the reconfiguration program.

AFAIK, the sky interior aircraft and the younger VU series aircraft (VUR-VUZ) are retaining their existing Y seats but having in-seat power installed. REX and RQP would fit into this category.

Seats are being done in BNE so might arrive empty if getting reconfigured. I understand they come off the boat in BNE from what an engineer was telling me.

All of the reconfiguration work so far has been done in Melbourne, although they're starting to do some aircraft during maintenance stints in Abu Dhabi and Seletar.
