April 2025 | QF3 | SYD to AKL
An enjoyable trip across the Tasman over the Easter break. I had originally been booked on a later flight on a 737 due to a considerable price difference however due to a small schedule change, Qantas were able to move me onto the earlier QF3 at no extra charge. Was very pleased with how that worked out!
Didn't eat much in the lounge, just some Easter Eggs and banana bread. They came around at 8am with a plate of the day offering but I didn't bother given boarding wasn't far off.
Boarding started a few minutes late. Went with water for my PDB.
Although the QF3 departure time has crept forward in recent months it remains a light lunch service.
After some consideration I decided on the chicken salad and a Heineken Zero to drink.
I was seriously impressed by this one, it was a large portion, super fresh and full of flavour. The side salad and bread were great in their own right as well, I may need to find some of that green goddess dressing to use at home! Close ups of each item below.
I noticed a lot of people who took the meatball sandwich weren't finishing it, not sure if it was just coincidence or the sandwich just wasn't very good. The passenger across the aisle from me also pointed out to the crew that it was surprising they didn't have a fish option for a Good Friday flight, she ended up having the side salad only.
Service was excellent with extra drinks offered proactively. Ice creams were served after the meal, which were great especially after you gave them a few minutes to thaw out.
Overall an excellent flight with great food and a stark contrast to the atrocious food on the journey home! More on that later.
