That’s why I stayed in the Yotel Airside hotel at Istanbul Airport in June. The room was excellent and it avoided both the visa fee and taxis.

That is not a cheap hotel! The visas, Uber and cheap Hampton by Hilton hotel 10 mins away added up to a similar price...we had separate tickets as well so had to go landside to collect checked bags even though in the end we did HLO.

I think that it already changed as initially it was designed to be processed by ambassy.
Three weeks ago I see these $190 pp and I decided to cancel my next year cruise due to this visa complexity.

However, the new electronic process will be easier, faster and cheaper.

The fee for the Brazilian e-visa will be AUD 152.

i remember having to pay some reciprocal fee for Argentina. That could be 10 years ago!

And we already decided in November to abandon (cancel) our planned cruise that included in the itinerary visiting 3 Brazilian ports with starting from Rio de Janeiro on 15 April 2024.
And this is because we are filling "not being welcomed" by their reintroduction of visas for Australians.

Understand your sentiment and disappointing for Aussies, but it's a 2 way Street .

As I understand it, it's not easy for any Brazilian to get a visa here and they can't do it electronically either.

While it's annoying that they keep changing and that the visa requirement will eventually be reinstated, this is great news for me personally. I'm going to South America in March and was going to skip Brazil due to the visa requirement, but that's no longer necessary.

Visiting Brazil and Chile a couple of times paid for my Pommy passport.

Chile's reciprocity fee only applies to SCL though, so easily avoided with some wise routing. Last Chilean trip I flew SYD-SCL-LIM so didnt enter Chile inbound. On my way back from Bolivia (after Peru and Ecuador) I did spend time in Chile, but we booked an indirect flight that saw us enter Chile via a regional airport where no fee charged, then flew onwards to SCL on domestic flight.

I am genuinely surprised that for so many that the decision to visit Brazil or not is based on whether a visa is required. It is an amazing place to visit, and frankly if you can afford to fly all the way to South America the visa cost is a drop in the ocean cost wise.

For me it's not the cost, but rather the hassle. (I have been 5 times and it's an amazing country - I'm well aware. On two of those visits I had to get a visa and it was a PITA.)

Well, I guess it's good news that they've extended the visa waiver but it's very frustrating that they keep moving the goal posts like this. They've already lost visitors who have made other plans.

After they extended the visa waiver period the last time, I changed around some plans for my South America trip and ended up going to Brazil again last month. Had a great time as always. This whole visa whack-a-mole game makes it hard to plan though
