Brisbane Drinks 20 May 2009

I was going to cancel, because of the amount of rain on the streets here and the fact my car likes to aquaplane at even low speeds, but it's just calmed down a bit so I'm going to try my hardest to get there.

If I have issues getting to the train station though, I might not arrive.

Last time we were outside the wine wasn't that bad so the rain fell straight down, is it going to be different this time, are we moving inside?

I should be there, as long as the train isn't late, around 5.

What's the quality of wine got to do with the direction of the rainfall? :p

I think inside might be a wise idea this time, unless we are all brave enough (though I'd think that the seats outside might be soaked, so standing room only). How this will pan out with the venue is another issue.

s/wine/wind I would say.

Had a phone call from straitman as he sat in MEL QP with mrs straitman
- he wanted to know what the weather was like. Told him to expect turbulence from about mid north coast NSW to and includign final approach into BNE. Has only just stopped raining in the last 30 minutes.
As at 2:39pm, its looking like it could be a bumpy ride into BNE from the south.

I have booked a table for inside. I am not brave enough to sit outside considering what the wind was doing to my huge glass window last night and this morning.

I should be there just after 5:00pm depending on the trains and how well I can swim uphill....

serfty, I have it on very good authority (IainF) that Jindalee GC was a swimming pool this afternoon (as he drove past it on the Centenary Highway).

Likewise, I'm glad I have an AWD now - two places on the road were actually under water. At the corner of Stafford Road and Old Northern Roads (anat0l will know the point I mean), there was a torent of water running down the side road that KFC is on, and onto the intersection. At the next left hand bend in the road (travelling outbound, from the Keith Brady Professionals Real Estate building), the inside lane was under water and there was an even bigger torrent of water running down the inside lane and flooding the houses on Old Northern Road). I was lucky to be in the outside lane and made it through - there were cars stalled/trapped in the torrent. Thankfully the rain has stopped being a heavy downpour, now more of a drizzle.

Great to meet you samh004, sorry I couldn't stay longer and I see I missed meeting Wunala Dreaming.

until next month...may your flights be many and varied

Have arrived in the dryness of my home. Dinner was consumed and wet socks and shoes were taken off in quick smart fashion (no pun intended).

Thankfully, although the rain tended to get heavier as I went away from the city, there were no new rivers nor aqueous torrents of note on the way home, so a very normal ride on the bus and a walk home through the light sprinkling.

s/wine/wind I would say.

Correct. I was about to post on Wednesday when my power went out. It was still out when I got home after the drinks, but came on in the morning.

Unfortunately my internet and Foxtel (cable) is still down so I wont be on as much until that's fixed. Apparently that's QLD-wide too.

Great to meet you samh004, sorry I couldn't stay longer

Good to meet you too, I'm sure I'll see you around at another function.
