Sophisticated? Just keep believing your own publicity.

You southerners would be dreaming if you could even think you could organise a successful regular drinks night like we do in Brisbane.

:Gag:

LOL

This required another poke...

Us sophisticated southerners who have drinks ~ every 2 months, choose to drink at establishments of class, trend and of great importance, at sea level.

Us sophisticated southerners also choose venues at different locations each time, we have had the Royce, a top little hotel, QV, a nice downtown bar, the pub, Lagerfield, a very nice bar and one who's name I forget in the city.

Us sophisticated southerners believe that one should sample different things in life - should exert oneself to see different things, and importantly, try many drinking holes before we die -Not going back to the same old place time and time again...

Us sophisticated southerners also understand the hedonistic epicurean delights available at eateries are beyond comprehension in Melbourne - Victorian hedonism - The theory that the final goal of all human action is pleasure. Commonly associated with sensuality and enjoyment of physical pleasures, such as fine food and drink*

Hmmmph

Us sophisticated southerners...

* And 18o6

Whilst exploring new things and trying everything at least once is a great part of life, sometimes it can get very expensive and such things should be saved for special occasions. A social gathering every month or two somehow doesn’t seem as special as travelling somewhere new, or celebrating something of importance.

That’s not to say we all don’t look forward to seeing each other again every month and getting lost in good company and conversation, but for the majority of us in Brisbane, we’d rather save for a special occasion, than spend it all with the same company (not that the company isn’t great and shouldn’t be treated).

Not going back to the same old place time and time again…

And 18o6

I note that this venue gets frequented often, and it is very good, but that would go against mixing it up and "not going back to the same old place time and time again” would it not? :p

The format of the monthly (excluding when everyone is away travelling) BNE drinks night suits the members from BNE because it’s always at the same place and you know the prices are always going to be good to you.

Other cities may have different “traditions” and ideas regarding gatherings, and variety is good in this way. I’ve enjoyed (a little too much) the differences in Melbourne, compared to Brisbane, but if Melbourne was my local city, I’d have to come every 6 months as I just wouldn’t be able to afford it and travelling elsewhere in this fine world.

We do hope you do visit Brisbane and The Mill again, it’s nothing fancy, but it works, and we’d welcome you any time.

Yes you are correct, however, 18o6 generally does not form part of the MEL drinks - its a night cap usually for just a few after the other festivities have ended...

We do hope you do visit Brisbane, it’s nothing fancy...

:creative cutting and pasting:

Yes Sam, that is true :)

In defence of the Brisbane drinks, I refer you to the theme song from the long standing TV show, Cheers :)
