Nah, should stay around the same. I believe the Govt is completely funding the extension to OOL, vs the private companies which funded the connection to BNE.

Not much different to catching the Brisbane City Council bus (from Toombul shops) to the Brisbane Airport (Industrial/shopping) zone for ~$3. It goes onto airport land, but is funded by the Govt as a regular commercial service. A taxi fare from DFO to Domestic or Intl airport would still be about $10 from there though, or about 30 mins walk I think.

I think there are also Sunbus busses that stop outside OOL airport at the moment which are funded by the Govt through Translink. Been a while since I've been past OOL airport though to actually care too much about where bus stops etc are.

So, yep, not all Airport public transport is expensive. (SYD and the public bus service, Adelaide and their bus and PER and their bus are all other examples of the same types of subsidised services)

When I was at OOL a couple of weeks ago swapping Hertz rental cars I noticed a couple of buses pull up outside the terminal. I meant to take down the route number but got carried away trying to remove the 1 hour additional rental that appeared on my previous rental agreement.

Agree that buses are cheap but for some reason in Australia they think they can charge through the nose for train travel to the airport.

I remember getting the train in BRU to Gare du Nord for €3 where as the return taxi trip was ~€47. :shock:

For getting to OOL the bus from Robina Station stops on Golden Four Drive (the main road) and there is a bus route 799 that provides a connection over to the terminals, must be one of the shortest bus routes around.

The fare for Route 799 is included in your fare if you have travelled to the airport on a regular Surfside service, so keep your ticket for the transfer. Otherwise it is $2.40 ($1.92 with a Go Card).

Route 799 also has a similar silly schedule to Airtrain.

The first bus in is at around 7am and stops at about 5:30pm.

If you are on a flight outside those times, you are stuck dragging your baggage across the highway, through the grass/mud and onto the road, sharing it with oncoming traffic.

With all the construction happening at OOL, you'd think they would construct a concrete walkway from the terminal to the highway!

All my gold coast friends are probably getting sick of picking me up from the train station and taking me to the airport, and I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for the door-to-door transfers unless absolutely necessary!
