Just noticed this on the web. One wonders what it's all about...Op-up's that weren't Op-up's??

Brisbane Qantas staff stood down

Posted 1 hour 12 minutes ago

Fifteen Qantas staff members based at the Brisbane's domestic airport have been stood down.
It is believed the matter involves an alleged breach of check-in policy.
The airline and police are carrying out an investigation.

Not sure why police would be involved in investigating a QF policy breach? Maybe it's something concerning policies that are not QF's own?

All speculation I suppose...guess we'll find out more in time...

Love a good speculate.

How about excess baggage charges?????

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Police can get involved for any number of reasons...

My best guess is that Qantas claims 'fraud' was happening - although, being an airport, Police can get involved easily due to their presence and jurisdiction over airports. Based on the number of staff, it is either a good witch-hunt, a dragnet for 'offences' or a well organised group of staff.

Will be interesting to hear what the story is. Speculation is usless, but fun.

I do feel sorry for any staff caught up in this though (assuming they are innocent, or some kind of witch hunt has occurred looking for minor oversights.)

It would be interesting to find out the details.

If I had to speculate the first thought that would come to mind is getting people without status better seats than the one I have been allocated. ;) :p No seriously could it be soliciting, or accepting, any sum of money from passengers to provide "op-ups" or change flights that should not have been changed? I can't think of any other reasons why the police would be involved.

My understanding is computer says "no" to all of the above nowadays.

Yes, apologies for not posting the original link but it was the ABC news on line and yes it is not there now.

HOWEVER.....I can add to it. Spoke to my Qantas contact tonight and his reaction was "Oh, that happened weeks ago - it was in phone reservations where someone got "caught" diddling with bookings and credits. He said that I'm not going on my own, so it looks like he took some folks with him today" Makes sense?!

:p JohnK's luck may change now - now we know where all his WP seating has been going!

I think you are right. Since the staff were stood down I was pre-allocated 25D last night and was able to select 23D without any issues. Now I can relax with that drink in the Qantas Lounge before the flight instead of worrying about seating allocations. ;)

Thats right, i went to check 2 small bags in on a BA ticket last night... the check agent had to call a supervisor to get the release to allow it, the computer blocks the printing of the second bag receipt.

In the good old day my mate was checking in heaps on QF at SIN and she told him he was way over weight... and he just talked around it and asked what she was drinking (coffee) and went and got her one :) the good old days eh.

I think check-in staff can still op-up their 'friends' etc though.

Unfortunately I am not subject to 'check-in friends' but I keep having people brag about it to me (without their realising that I'm not exactly amused by it, being a WP - having their 'friends' op-uped instead of WPs like myself is not precisely amusing!). I don't think they are all lying, unfortunately.

I encountered something similar (in my case it was for a connecting BA flight). It caused the check-in staff so much work that I felt really guilty (I said I would just collect my bags at LHR and re-check them at T5, but they said they would try and sort it out, which they did).

Both of them were small, i could have carried then hang lugguage as both in lagal size but i did not really want to be bothered (if it had been a real problem for them this is what i would have done but it was very quick to fix just required somebody else to check it and make the decision)... in hindsight MEL was a zoo this morning !!! bags were late, customs and immigration was swamped.

I have lobbed up to the airport a few times on a red-e-deal non changeable ticket way to early for my allocated flight and have politely asked if is possible to be moved to an earlier flight and have never been turned down.

They have never had to get a supervisor or anything to allow the change to go through.

Only a QF Bronze too..

Had a chat to BNE check-in staff downstairs earlier and they do not know too much about it, well they actually looked surprised I knew about it but they were not going to tell me anything anyway, and apparently there is nothing serious that occurred. Perhaps a witch hunt.

Did not need to know that as I have been refused everytime as a Platinum. Maybe I am not as polite as you....

Is there something silly (e.g. events) going on in MEL? The flights were really full, the bags were really late and very banked up (I'm talking domestic here by the way), and just lots of people.
