Did not need to know that as I have been refused everytime as a Platinum. Maybe I am not as polite as you....

Don't get too paranoid! My success rate is about 70/30 (30 = refused), so WPs don't always get it, either.

Is there something silly (e.g. events) going on in MEL? The flights were really full, the bags were really late and very banked up (I'm talking domestic here by the way), and just lots of people.

Maybe many coming down to MEL - Swine flu capital of Australia - in the hope of being sent home from work / school etc for 7 days when they return North????!!!! :D

Maybe i have just been lucky in that the earlier flight is very underbooked and plenty of seats are empty.

Having said it does not happen to me as WP when i was just a QC member and used to fly SYD-MEL a lot i used to also get a lot of earlier flights on non changable tickets but the nature of the times i booked i think ensured that, because QF were fully booked on on my flights and happy to free the space and potentially sell that seat. When i could not get a seat the same day i would often wait till the next day so any free seats could be sold i am sure.
