For a Business Class return from Brisbane to Hong Kong, which is the better option, Qantas or Virgin Atlantic?

It will be a compromise either way, with 1 or both out via Sydney, angled bed in Qantas direct BNE-HKG, and I'm not exactly sure what bed in Virgin Atlantic (hard to figure out if it's a "New" Upper Class Suite).

So any pluses or minuses will help. Thanks!

on VS it won't be new upper class suite. But the upper class suite that they are suing for the SYD route still has a fully flat bed

If you are WP it would be easy, via SYD with a looooooong connection in Flounge and than A380

CX flat "coffin" beds direct out of BNE or, CX flat new J out of SYD

QF have/had? some great deals for J SYD/BNE-HKG return for under $3800. If you jag the A380 out of SYD you will get skybed MK11....flat.

For the Qantas HKG-SYD at the time I'm looking at, they are 747-400. Do these have good flat beds?

Thanks for the comments so far.

They would be the MKI's so sloping

Being 4-class route, you would have the sloping beds, however there are 747's with the 380 product onboard with the MKII beds on them.

Would would be the likelihood of the refurbed birds making the odd appearance on this route?

Unfortunately I'm a mere mortal - no WP (which I had to look up). So Business Class only - and I, too, hate those slippery slope "beds".

Hmmmmm!

I would definitely be flying on CX ex-SYD - they are in my opinion the best business class seats available to me.

However I do not love the CX food - the flip side for me as a WP is that I fill up on food at the F lounge and sleep up to HKG.

I think that as long as they sell First to HKG that it will be the 744 with First and MKI's

Sorry to drag up an old-ish thread, but I have a similar problem coming up. I have enough points to go one way in business between Sydney and Hong Kong with both VS and QF (i.e. I have ~60000 QFF points and ~60000 Velocity points). Now, considering that both QF and VS only have daytime flights to HKG and overnight flights from HKG, which should I do? QF SYD-HKG and VS HKG-SYD or vice versa?

My first thought is VS to HKG (as they have the onboard bar that would only be useful if I'm awake), and QF from HKG (as they have better beds?). However, I then thought of the lounge situation (VS has a clubhouse in HKG, but not in SYD IIRC; QF have 'good' lounges in both cities), which would mean that I should do things the other way. Any other suggestions?
