I am planning to visit Katy, Texas around September and wondered if anyone was familiar with the route and what would be the best airline?

Surely QF to Dallas would be a no brainer in most cases?

If you want to keep to OW either via Sydney and direct to DFW, or to LAX connecting to DFW/Houston
Other options could be Air Pacific via Nadi to LAX, or LAX via AKL

It would markis10, but I have been less than happy with QF lately, thanks for the alternative suggestions Blackadder. I have a friend in Venice Beach who is always happy to put me up for a couple of days if I want a stopover.

Wouldn't QF15 BNE/LAX be better - then a direct connection to Houston? Isn't there about 10-15 direct flights a day? Remember that route has the refurbished product.

Thanks for the info, will look into that. Just been surfing the net on airfares, and if I was booking with Qantas from the US it would be a lot cheaper? Wonder why that is?

Different prices in different markets.... like everything else!

No point getting bent out of shape about it (we seem to have had quite a few rants recently about this...;)) BUT take advantage of it by all means... Some folks do an award one-way to the cheaper point of origin.. then start a series of returns on the better fares. Clealry that only works for regular travellers!

Good idea!!!

I booked a cruise last year from an agent in the USA ( the website told me I needed a USA postcode but when I contacted the travel agent he said it didnt matter) so I wont be getting upset about it;)

I would just point out that i just got a one way ticket to HKG- from there you can do a cheap flight to pretty h anywhere. Previously i thought this trick would only work if you fly to say LAX every single year, but flying each year to a central hub allows for a lot of flexibility. Of course you still need to be an overseas traveller at least once per year to do this.

As I am a bit of a novice with getting good deals with the airlines, I started checking our airfares with Qantas for October 2012. I am looking at staying in Houston for about 3 weeks, and am flexible. I intend to book economy and then try and get an upgrade with my points. I can either leave end of Sept or anytime in October.

The cheaper fares that I saw do not fly direct to Dallas from Brissie. I can see that there is a sale on, but it looks like it ends in September??

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

If you'd like to be a bit more adventurous, for $2700 you can fly BNE-IAH return via DXB on EK. For no extra cost, you could also open jaw on the return leg from either JFK or LAX (or YYZ).
Longer flight duration than Qantas but actually only 1 stop compared to QF's 2 stops via SYD/DFW.

You could also stopover at DXB (and/or SIN on the way over or on the return journey).

Thanks for the suggestions, will look into that, sounds good! Price okay too.:)
