Brushing Broome to points further N

A week ago my brother was coming back from 'up North' and had to queue for 30 minutes at Carnarvon to fuel up so it has been a flat out for all points north of Perth for a while. Someone else I know is going to Broome in about 3 weeks and was told to book ahead for any 'fancy' meals now. She has done so and still had trouble getting bookings at some places.

We were there last week, and this still applies.

Bookings for ANYTHING in a Broome restaurant are 105% essential, as staff shortages up there are critical this year as no backpackers. They have now all flown back home.

Petrol and Diesel both $2.60 a litre now. :(

Accommodation prices are insane. Even the rough and ready Roebuck Hotel was $340 a night when I looked. Eating there is one option - basic pub food but you eat in evenings! Can Rental car prices also insane. .

Qantas was front page in the local paper as they keep cancelling the last flight out, leaving plane loads of pax stranded with of course nowhere usual to accommodate them. Locals were putting them up on air mattresses etc via Facebook SOS calls etc. Three such late cancels in June alone.

Road to Cape Levesque now fully sealed which is good to see. :)

A friend was in Broome recently and “enjoyed” all the current attributes
No staff = no service and usurious pricing.
Seems worth avoiding
