Bushfires 2019/2020!

Amazing response to the bushfires and from surprising quarters/countries:

As to Mr.Rudd he has some difficulty with memory and relevance-his own.
Newspaper reports of the 2009 fires report that Mr.Rudd offered the services of the ADF.By his own admission he worked through the Victorian Government as was and until this year the way it always worked. There is no evidence reservists were involved.
Morrison's statement was this was the first time reservists had been used which does appear to be true.
"The comments drew the attention of Mr Rudd who pointed to the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009 when he, as then prime minister, worked with the Victorian state government to respond to the disaster which resulted in 173 deaths.
Hundreds of ADF personnel were deployed to provide emergency relief to the affected communities in Victoria in 2009, which had been one in a series of bushfire disasters that defence force personnel had been deployed to over several decades.

"I understand Prime Minister Morrison said today it was the first time that the federal government has been called upon to play a central role in responding to bushfires in Australia. I've got to say to Mr Morrison, that's not my recollection of Black Saturday," Mr Rudd said in a video he posted to Twitter."
No where in Rudd's statement apart from the headline does it say reservists were used.

Do we have to bring so much politics into this? It’s frankly pathetic. Rudd, Morrison, whoever whatever. People making decisions without a crystal ball and in difficult situations, whilst dealing with jurisdictional issues. These are issues with the way our system is set up, not political issues per se.

Forget Facebook, just look at the Dept of Defence website

Here is the ADF/Reserves full activity re the 2019-2020 Bushfires and is being updated daily.

Reading the list of "Concluded Support" down the webpage will suggest the ADF has been involved way before Scomo went on holidays.

The reserves callout are predominantly from the Army 4th, 5th and 9th Brigade. Cross reference with link above to see where they are actively supporting the Bushfire effort.

Here is the Army Order of Battle:

Thanks, that bugged me too!

And in Tassie the Premier has announced the hiring of 3 indigenous National Parks rangers to advise on indigenous fire culture and burns.A good move.

I’ve just been reading that they’ve lost 40,000 koalas on Kangaroo Island - can’t get my head around that.

Though they have for some time been trying to reduce the koala population on K.I.
Yes that’s true. They have been trying to work out how to humanely cull for years as they have been eating themselves out of their food due to their benign living conditions. Also Koalas removed from KI for treatment cannot be returned to KI as they are the only koalas in Australia who are Chlamydia free. Hence the need to treat them on the Island wherever possible.

Population numbers on KI were very high, so much so you would just walk around and spot them wherever you were.

I heard on our local radio this morning that the smoke from the fires had now circled the globe although I don’t know if that is hype.

Is Melbourne as bad as the media are making it to be here on our media?

Boxhill (a suburb) is currently AQI 595 - "Hazardous to Health"

The CBD is 294 - "Very Unhealthy" (was 441 overnight)

It is not pleasant and I won't be going outside.
