Business class and toilets

Even when I was flying Y, I never thought it was my place to break the invisible line and go help myself to what I havent paid for.

Now Im enjoying J and I still dont think its my place to break into F to see how the other half get to pee.

But if youre in F... the cabin is your play pen.

The front toilet on a B737 is the worst on board IMO. The curvature of the cabin leads to not only a reduction in head space, but often a toilet seat that won't stay up by itself - meaning that many men seem to miss the bowl and hit the floor (or seat) while trying to hold it open "with the other hand", yuck! Anyway, IME - VA announce restricted use and police it, QF announce restricted use but don't police it.

Reckon the OP might like to retract the rant? Not exactly a supportive audience here hey?
We get this topic a few times a year. It's not a hard and fast rule and rules are meant to be broken. If you gotta go, you gotta go....

You know what? The older I get the more I enjoy breaking them. I do apply the 'fairness' test first though. And using the business class toilets when I have only stumped for economy isn't one of them, unless I was very unwell/desperate. And I think I would be saying 'sorry sorry sorry' as I walked into the cabin.

If I think a rule is just stupid then it is game on.

I'm old and grumpy. The toilet rule is stupid. And I'm not one for class divides. I don't care who uses which toilet when I am flying in business.

It makes sense to use the toilet at the front of aircraft if I am in row 4. It makes no sense to use the First Class toilets if you have to walk through premium economy and business class to get there.

So if your seat was constantly being knocked, people standing on your toes, talking loudly, you have to wait in line yourself and the seclusion you paid for is spoiled by the Y PAX, does any of that not take away the enjoyment of what you are paying for? Would you mind if everyone boarded together and got priority baggage? Shared that food with you? I can certainly understand why there are divides. It's clear that is what the majority want and are willing to pay for. I think sharing all your nice things make them not quite so nice.

I don't think it is stupid. It is for those who have paid for it. That's where my fairness rule kicks in. (The other analogy isn't relevant.)

Well you and I are obviously different.

I will continue to use whichever toilets I can use. It is that simple. If the CSM or FA direct me to the back then I will comply. But I will try to use toilet closest to me. I don't care too much for the seclusion some people crave.

Next you are going to tell me that I shouldn't accept the drink offered from business class by the CSM just in case they run out and some poor premium customer misses out?

....... I don't care too much for the seclusion some people crave.

Considering how honest you have been about how you hate people reclining, despite it being a function of the seat. I hope the next 20 flights you take that the person in front of you reclines moments after take off.

Seems fair, considering you "dont care for the seclusion some people crave".

Yes sounds fair and happened to me a few times recently. I survived though and here we are debating the use of toilets on aircraft.

I really hope that champagne doesn't run out.

If you want to use the J loo, pay for J. Emergencies aside, there's no reason why you shouldnt be using the one in your own cabin.

If you are offered the drink then why would you refuse?
Were you offered the use of the J bathrooms in Y?

If there's a spare free seat in business class do you also just sit in it?

Sitting in Row 3 has one disadvantage IMHO....and that's the longest toilet walk on the plane. But i am happy to do it as i feel the people up front paid for their toilet privacy as silly as it all may seem. But that's just respect for their situation.

Yes. Many times.

And if you've spent enough time in row 4 on SYD-BNE flights you'll know the cart is out quite a long time. Go down the back at the wrong time and you could be waiting 10-15 minutes to get back to seat.

By the way I am quite organised. I usually use the bathroom near boarding gate but sometimes nature has different plans. I don't quite understand the obsession in who uses the toilet.

There are many services on a flight that are for premium customers only yet some of these are offered to economy class passengers. Does it really matter who uses a toilet? Does it matter if the person was in row 3, row 4 or row 7? Does anyone actually check? There is hardly ever a queue to use the toilet anyway.

Some people in this thread are very touchy. I don't have to see things your way. It's petty to argue over who uses a toilet. Now cheap status is a different story.

JohnK - always said if you can't get past the trolley and you need to go then obviously up front might be needed.

I personally am not bothered if Y pax use the J cabin loo. I've never had my toes trod on or seen lines of people even 4 deep. I look at it like it's just a "nature calls" type of event. It goes against the way I personally would treat people ie 737 with 8 people to one loo and send the other hundred odd to the back loo (not sure how many are down the back but guessing 2 at most). I think a basic human need comes before my money paid for a J ticket and I will not be swayed otherwise. I've not found Y pax to be noisy either. You can have people in the same cabin that are noisy.

When I'm in Y I don't go bustling forward to the J cabin loo even if row 3 or 4 because I know some J pax do feel like they've paid for the "exclusive toilet" but I also have a strong dislike of plane toilets so try and go before boarding or after disembarking. Airport loos are generally better (but not always!).

That's not the same. Just like I don't ask for a business class meal. But I do ask for business class headphones, champagne/sparkling and amenity kit if prompted.
