You seem to have forgotten the status bonus for points in the calcs!

Assuming no status. I'd have to make a table otherwise :)

But of course you're right to point it out. With some status already my perceived residual cost after points value reduces even further

I'd just look at it as

$2607
320 SC
32588 VFF points as a Silver

$ 8.15 per SC

Not the best value by any means.... but it's still a nice trip!

These damn QLD storms look set to continue to Friday morning so I am ready to pull the pin on my MEL-OOL-MEL flights at any time...

Yeah , keeping my eye on the damn QLD weather also , was looking to do the SYD-BNE-MKY-SYD run on Saturday .

OOL was the worst affected today by the looks of it!

However, the rain/wind/storms move towards Brisbane over the next few days....

I am mostly concerned that I'll miss my OOL-MEL flight as I have to do on-line checking before leaving MEL...

As such I am not entitled to any refunds/credits if I miss the flight.

Normally the plane that is used from MEL-OOL is the one that operates OOL-MEL but today they substituted it for another, but given the weather......

I might space my flights out by a few hours and make it another day I think

Your post does not make sense in the context of J flights, you can make changes 24 hours AFTER the flight time!

The deal from PER to say ... MEL then:

PER-SYD-MEL return, $2607 in J (via syd to get the A330 J experience and some miles)

Standard Deal = 2607 x 5 = 13,035 VFF
Status Credits = Zone 3 flight in J, so 80 x 2 = 160 (return ticket) = 160VSC
Assuming some type of 1:1 CC earner on the fare = 2607 VFF

I've upped my personal valuation of VFF to 3c, same as QF. Status credits are always difficult to put a value on and everyone has different circumstances. Gold and up is the only valuable status to suit my needs and I value a V SC at about $1.50 each. I could understand some valuing them higher and I might adjust my own view in the future too.

So, with the double VFF + SC deal

VFF's earned = 13,035 x 2 + 2607 = 38,677 x 0.03 = $860
SC earned = 160 x 2 = 320 x 1.5 = $480

I generally measure these things by looking at the residual cost to me after rewards benefits, so long as I know I will redeem the rewards, in this case, original fare $2607 - 860 - 480 = $1267

and will leave one 180SC off gold if they started with a clean slate.

Does that sound about right?
What about the 25% fare discount if you book through Amex travel :?: (for those who qualify)

My post does actually make sense in the context of J flights

From the T&C's
"If you check in, but do not fly, you will not be eligible for a refund or credit."

As I said I have to do online check for the OOL-MEL flight before leaving MEL so I will be checked in, as the turnaround is only 35 mins I can't do the check in at OOL

As such if the plane arrives late into OOL and they substitute another aircraft for the OOL-MEL flight, I am not eligible for any refunds or credits

Is that still going ? I rang them a few days ago and they said the offer had expired !!!!
I was told today that it had been extended and I rang them and they confirmed it was still going. I didn't actually try and book, as I'll do that tomorrow.

They are open 24/7 though from 11pm until (I think) 8am it diverts to the UK.

I should have known to ring more than once or ask on here..........:shock:

I'll ring them in the morning.... But 25% off is great, I am happy to forfeit VFF points, I am just after SC's

To take advantage of this promo, what about Sydney to Denpasar in Business for a nice little points earner along with 320 status credits? you can get direct from Syd to Denpasar for a total of $1,349 on some days, with one way J around the mid $600 each way, in late Jan and early Feb and get 80SC each way, then when it's doubled with the double SC promo you get the 320SC. Whilst the total flight flight time is around 3 times longer than the SYD-MKY SC run and would also require a longer stopover (overnight) the total points earn for Syd to Depensar is were the bonus lies! 2873 miles each way (5,746 total miles x 2 velocity points per mile for J short haul business = 11,492 point miles x double points = 22,984 points) work out the affect on points with your status points bonus on base rate as well. Think I calculated this all right. Anyone else know of a similar high earning SC and points run for lesser or similar dollars?

??? , its there in my post above

Oh, I thought that was a cut-n-paste of something you maintain somewhere else, hehe, nevermind, interesting read (the table), got to make one of these for myself with PER as the origin.

MEL/DPS is 689/630 so just a bit cheaper.

And I like MEL international a bit better than SYD ;)

The return rotation of those aircraft are to PER. SYD/MEL only has redeye returns!

I don't know what immigration in both AU and Indonesia will say to me if I do a trip like that :o
