The deal from PER to say ... MEL then:
PER-SYD-MEL return, $2607 in J (via syd to get the A330 J experience and some miles)
Standard Deal = 2607 x 5 = 13,035 VFF
Status Credits = Zone 3 flight in J, so 80 x 2 = 160 (return ticket) = 160VSC
Assuming some type of 1:1 CC earner on the fare = 2607 VFF
I've upped my personal valuation of VFF to 3c, same as QF. Status credits are always difficult to put a value on and everyone has different circumstances. Gold and up is the only valuable status to suit my needs and I value a V SC at about $1.50 each. I could understand some valuing them higher and I might adjust my own view in the future too.
So, with the double VFF + SC deal
VFF's earned = 13,035 x 2 + 2607 = 38,677 x 0.03 = $860
SC earned = 160 x 2 = 320 x 1.5 = $480
I generally measure these things by looking at the residual cost to me after rewards benefits, so long as I know I will redeem the rewards, in this case, original fare $2607 - 860 - 480 = $1267
and will leave one 180SC off gold if they started with a clean slate.
Does that sound about right?
