Hi gurus.
I want to fly to Sez next October with FF points. I also want to fly as direct as posssible and business class.

I was wrapt to hear of the EK alliance and was counting down until April 2013 to be able to spend the points with EK for my holiday in Oct/Nov 2013. I thought that even if I cant get the EK flight to DXB, then there will also be a possibility for a QF one, and then I can pick up EK again to SEZ or pay for that sector ( as it's only 4.5 hrs I could manage that in econ).

Today I find out that Qantas has opened up FF bookings to London via Dubai, that means all the J seats will surely be gobbled up by people flying to UK. So that takes Qantas out of my fall back plan.

That leaves the Emmirates option...and if its anything like the QF ff program, all their J seats available to Frequent flyers will be long gone by April 2013 for a Oct 2013 flight...

should I just book a FF dubai ticket with Cathay, even though out of the way, and soo much longer flying time ? But at least it would be a bird in the hand ?

Since the flight from JNB-SEZ takes the same time as from DXB-SEZ, wouldn't it be quicker and better value to just redeem a Business Class MEL-SYD-JNB flight on QF.

Thanks, I didn’t even consider that option. Cheap amount of points for J flight too. I did want to return via Asia though as need to call into Chiang Mai....but the J’burg route might be handy for the trip over at least. Will need to check the schedules and see how the Air Seychelles flights from j’burg marry up etc.
