Guys has a non gender specific usage in combination with "you" or "sorry" - just a bit of sepo BS [introduced to the game by the west indies]. I guess it is done like that for people who have trouble with "you" being both plural and singular.

Totally agree about "mate". Had a QF FA lob my snack at me on one flight while saying "here ya go, mate".

Understand the gender thing, nevertheless "guys" is just too casual/familiar in a professional service environment but on the other hand she probably felt that we were easy going people and was relaxed enough to use that terminology.

Several hundred J flights with QF and I do not think any crew member has ever called me "mate".

I wasn't defending the use of guys. The opposite in fact, just referring to your comment that Mrs MiB doesn't look like a guy.

Only one Mate on QF for me, that's why I remember it.

In my opinion there's nothing more Australian as a greeting from your CSM than a hug or a kiss or a lick, grope on the cough or a bit of a dry r**t.

"can you put the window shade up MATE." (no please mate!) Addressing passengeres as "mate" or "you guys" is probably just a little too casual

Ha! One of my pet peeves too. Ranks slightly better in my books than being addressed as "bloke" though. I'm ok with Sir or Madam if they can't remember your name (which is fair on a full flight). Bloke, Mate, Guys, its just too much ... note I also hate this at restaurants .. "G'day bloke, can I get you the menu mate?" .. bleah

Haven't been addressed as 'mate' on a DJ flight for a very long time now - hoping it stays that way. I'm happy enough with "Mr. notzac", I don't mind being addressed by my given name but mate is pushing the friendship.

Currently on DJ 526 in 1A no welcome back and J is full and no love at all for the 8 pax except for the pre recorded stuff. Connecting to Perth on 565. We may delay XFB as we are due in now 10 minutes before depature. Just got juice or water but served again with no care for the pax.

Courtesy of the Status Match, combined with the Double SCs and Points in J offer, I've had five J flights in quick succession, all of them between MEL and SYD.

I was previously a rusted-on QF customer and cannot imagine that I would have flown DJ without the status match. (QFF Plat for many years, LTG etc, self-funded travel, many long haul o/s flights annually, much of it in J, occasionally in F, and when the planets collide, in Y.)

Looking to requal for Velocity Plat, took advantage of the Double SC etc offer, when the opportunity presented, although as a self-funder, I never travel QF J domestically.

Overall, on this sample of five DJ J Class flights and taking into account the end-to-end service, I give DJ high marks, both for effort and execution.

On the plus side, the staff attitudes and service are the standout. Excellent, almost without exception, at all points in the system.

I flew three of the five legs in the brand new - one week old - a/c, which was comfortable and sparkling. Slight malfunction with a tray table - same seat on two legs - was the only trivial issue, along with the digi-players, which are just plain silly, of course.

Food was plentiful, in contrast with other posters' experience. Most were the full meal service, with one flight having the "snack" service, which was almost a full meal in this case.

Assistance with stowing and retieving bags, priority exit from the plane, were all handled well, as was PB in every case.

The direct entry into the SYD lounge, with the dedicated security, is brilliant - but that lounge is embarrassingly shabby. I know that an upgrade is on the way but the stained fraying seat coverings etc are shameful. The MEL lounge is pleasant, bright and has always been well serviced on my visits.

(The only other niggle, which I referred to in a post on another thread, is the delayed posting of credits.)

Guess the question is: Now that the Double SC offer has finished, will I pay for J for future flights?
To be seen....

You may be paying for J in March and April by buying a Flexi and upgrading with half the points of normal in these months. I just upgraded 3 flexi fares tonight for partner and myself. What a bargain, especially until midnight tonight with 20% of some flexi fares as well. Qantas is strange if they think Virgin's great deals are not going to affect them. I see this competition between the two becoming a smaller scale Nokia/Microsoft and Apple story, with QF being Nokia/Microsoft and Virgin Apple.

Yes, one wonders. I'll pursue it as much for the feedback to DJ as anything else.

The flight was otherwise ok. The FA's were tired and I felt they struggled to give much happy face but we're all human - I was tired too and probably din't smile much :)

We were told that the J food wasn't loaded. I've had this excuse before. Mistakes do happen, every FF here knows that and accepts it, but there seems to be a rising problem with DJ's catering company which needs them to seriously look at I think.

Quoting myself here but though it worth following up.

Got an email yesterday, so, about 7 weeks since the complaint. I guess thats normal for these types of companies.

Anyway, big long email full of apology and a $50 credit shell against not having fed me properly on my J flight. In an interesting faux pas, privacy wise I think, they also mentioned in my email the name of the only other passenger in J that evening.... he was even more annoyed than I was and obviously complained as well.

I guess its better than a kick in the underpants, but was really looking for a refund rather than a credit shell. Some points or even 50$ back on my CC would have been acceptable.

I'm still happy they at least appear to have read my complaint and have responded.

A generally good experience SYD-MEL-SYD this weekend in J (points and upgrade). Some sevice aspects still "evolving" in terms of polish (e.g. using passenger names more where possible).

Yikes that is just completely unacceptable.

The flight attendants regularly call pax by their names in business class and can be easily overheard. Not sure how mentioning a name in an email is any different?
