Business Class with Baby?

I flew First from BKK to SYD with our 18 month old. He was the best behaved in the cabin. The looks we got when we boarded were priceless though. But he was asleep on the runway and woke up on descent. It was a most enjoyable flight.

Go go for it. Don't feel bad. And if he cries - oh well - that happens.

Nice attitude

My SIL and her 2 kids aged 4 and 7 just flew first with Emirates from Dubai to Sydney... They do it 4 times per year and have done so since the kids were born!

Yes it's true kids do fly first class. I'd prefer a child free F cabin myself but if the parents are looking after the kid then I've got no problem with it. But surely you have seen the kind of parent who allows their child to run around disturbing passengers, screaming uncontrollably etc and the parents do precisely nothing. I have seen a child running from bulkhead first row of economy in and out of a business class cabin screaming! The parents did nothing at all. I think that's the kind of thing lovestotravel is referring to.

Yep and people with the attitude that if the baby cries "oh that happens"

Personally if I was paying the big bucks for long haul J or F I would be unhappy if kids were running silly through the cabin or a baby screamed the entire flight....

But a parent can't stop a baby from screaming and from experience a parent normally does everything too shut them up!!

As in the case with older kids traveling in First, one would think would be well behaved and normally brought up by nannies as in the case of my SIL. (Something I totally oppose though!!)

As for the trip to Fiji in J, the entire plane is normally full of kids due to the destination, so enjoy!!!

Parents can of course reduce the amount of screaming and crying a baby does

I have seen some great parents who look after their infants/young children and you hardly head a peep out of them

On the other hand I have seen parents who as was even suggested up by someone, to use the flight attendants as baby sitters and let the infant scream and/or the kids run around

Says more about the parents than anything else

If a baby is screaming on take off/landing and won't take a dummy/suck I can't see what else a parent can do too shut it up??

It's screaming because of the pressure on his/her ears.....

I have handed many lollipops to distressed parents seated near me on flights who are desperately dealing with a screaming toddler when landing....the relief on everyone's face when it finally stops is amazing!

Which is exactly why a loud baby shouldn't be in business/first

No-one wants to hear a screaming child

Nobody wants to hear it regardless of class of travel. And yes I have flown in F, J and Y. However, if the parent is doing their best to calm the child then it's part of life and other pax just have to suck it up as it were. I'm sure the parent isn't enjoying it either.

I've seen and heard lots of ignorant adults who cause far more problems with no excuse than I have infant children.

This subject is like a hand grenade for AFF. Rip pin, lob, aaand.....

Sit back with a bowl of popcorn, this is gonna get interesting!

While we are at it can we add the DYKWIA, drunk slobs and generally loud cough talkers who disturb my peace and quiet ? I will take my 14 month and 3 1/2 year old in J ( oct 31 Mel-JFK in J/F on VA / DL just so you can make sure you not on the same flights ) over THOSE types any day

Go for it.

I have flown FJ and the staff could not do enough for Little Miss in J.

Now what we need to do is to bring a few babies to that F Lounge DYKWIA conference to spice up the meeting ......

Hence my comment - if the baby cries, #%it happens!!!

hook, line and sinker.

seriously though, I've been that parent on a flight where my child just screamed. There was nothing we could do. We tried everything and couldn't settle him. Just had to wait until he tired out and had to put up with all the stares from everyone on the flight. As a parent you try your hardest to settle them and not annoy everyone but sometimes there's nothing you can do. This was our kids 30th+ flight and the first time he didn't settle. The stares could kill and probably only made it worse.

Go for it. We took a 13 month baby in Business Class with no problems at all. She slept for most of the way, and hardly grizzled at all. Don't be put off by the few intolerant responses in this thread.

It depends.

If I am in J then I am travelling for work and I am either a) trying to prepare for meetings/ presentations/ review documents etc or b) trying to get some rest between finishing work and needing to bounce off a plane rested and ready to jump straight into work. A screaming baby is not going to help me do either and from past experience, is also useful for bringing on a migraine - again not helpful when you're needing to work.

I understand that parents don't make babies cry deliberately and also understand that it is not pleasant for a baby to get that eat pressure. And I get it - if you've paid for the seat then you're entitled to sit in it but others around you have similarly paid for their J seat so they can get the space and quiet to work.
