I guess someone could always ask? but then do they book it for you while you are on the phone?

I think I will figure out how to use my Qantas points to buy Tatts tickets - more
chance of winning than in the FF Lotto !

My friend has been calling Qantas FF all day today (lowly Bronze!) to try for seats in September to USA with no luck at all.
Did you just luck out that time you think?
(this is me, grasping at straws!)

The request for award space is only available to WP's.

Like said, many of us find the QFF site very frustrating, spending hours trying to get a particular flight.

In regard to any seat award points and cash, might as well throw the points in the bin, its so expensive doing it that way.

I'm in Cairns looked at buying one Y CNS/SYD/CNS and one J SYD/LAX/SYD ret. was about $9.5K plus try and use QFF points for another, but can get Air NZ in J CNS/AUK/SFO ret. for $6.5K, so $13K for two (SFO is our preferred US entry point anyway), join Star Alliance get stack of points and can transfer some of my AMEX points in future to that.

So I'm thinking have a foot in both camps in future like many do, then more choice.

I requested a U seat for a flight next month SIN-MEL.

It was showing J9 C9 D9 I4 U1, Would have done JASA, but we needed two seats.

So a call, an additional U seat was released in about 20 seconds and a classic award confirmed. (The QFF points would have been nice, but I was not goinf to ask about a JASA on that one.)

And what do I do with our 600,000 QFF points?
How about a QF Oneworld award? In business class it costs 280,000 QFF points each and if you plan it carefully with flexible dates you should be able to visit 3-4 continents within the Oneword award conditions.

I have booked 3 of these in the last 4 years but I don't mind sitting in economy.

I have tried logging on via foreign Qantas sites, but those canny IT guys have that sussed too. My ISP gives away my location and it will default back to the NZ site. Seeing what the Americans were offered (when I was in NY) was an eye opener.
I am not sure what you are doing wrong but I have no issues purchasing aifares from 'foreign' Qantas sites. Just go on to Qantas.com and from the homepage click on Flights from Australia (Change) and then choose your country. For me this setting stays the same for international flights until I change it. I have purchased many return tickets ex-SIN to take advantage of cheaper airfares.

"Computer says 'No' " was a combination of the following:

me trying to make a change/upgrade of my current booking; and
me trying a dummy booking to see if any business seats had come up.
I can understand there may not have been business class award seats available but you did mention earlier that you purchased economy flights using QFF points. If you redeemed a Classic award then there is no way this will be eligible for a QFF points upgrade online unless you have received a special invitation email or a call from Qantas.
