Buy the cheap flights then

All I'm saying is that Qantas do promote themselves as being more than a business. They promote themsleves as valuing loyalty. Now this is a general statement and I'm fully aware there are all sorts of if, buts and maybes in deciding how much marketing really means in reality. And I'm not saying that profit isn't ultimately king.

As a NB with an increasing amount of flying, I'm suggesting that qantas should be more interested in getting my extra cash. Instead qantas is interested in helped the statused maintain their status despite the fact that those people are taking some of their flying elsewhere. Ultimately these types of promos mean that these people can take their spend away from qantas and still get a free kick in terms of maintaining status. I feel devalued by qantas, they are prepared to give others a free kick who are switch from qantas and they are not prepared to give any incentives to someone who has new business to bring to them.

I'm saying that I think this is a misplaced priority. I'm not saying that qantas should go out of business or anything stupid like that. Just that the OP and people like me should be aware that qantas don't value any new or existing business from the bronzed. But they are willing to only get the bare minimum from the statused in maintaining their status and even then they will accept less than the minimum by offering free kicks.

edit: and before there is another stream of posts telling how I'm wrong and a business has to make money - I'm presenting my analysis of how qantas operates and my opinion of their misplaced priorities. Doesn't mean I think they should do anything different. I can accept that they do what they think is best. doesn't mean you need to convince me to change my opinion

As an NB, you have less that 350SCs.

A WP has either 1400SCs or 1200SCs (as a renewal).

Until you have proved yourself to QF, I don't see why they should do you any deals.

Some WPs have been at the 1200SC level for many years. Personally I'm almost to LTG (i.e. 14000 SCs - 90% on QF).

Personally I would be disappointed if QF was doing favours for those that only spend a few hundred a year with QF (for limited profit), if I'm sending many tens of $00,000 QF's way each year, and one year I'm a bit short.

In this current times have you diverted some of you 10 of $00,000 (whatever that means) to other airlines?

And let me guess, when you get LTG you're going to keep up that spending with QF or are you going to chase status with star alliance for example?

In general, (that means that you might be the exception) there seem to be plenty of people in your situation who will put a cap on their spending with qantas. I'm saying that regardless of incentives these people will still spend to that cap. That is money that qantas will get anyway, yet these people do get incentives. In fact the incentives means they don't have to spend as much to make LTG. Compare that to people who are increasing their spend, they get no incentive in these troubled times to make a choice to QF (sorry points and SC aren't an incentive - lots of airlines offer these types of things, they are called benfits of a FFP). IMO that is a misplaced focus. Isn't the main point of most business to grow and not just get to a relatively fixed level of income.

medhead,

What do you propose that they (QF) could/should do for you :?:

I don't propose they do anything for me. (but I have explained the situation to QF and asked if they want to offer me an incentive to fly with them)

As I said in my last post: (an edit perhaps you missed it)

I have away been away (not on QF, there schedules didnt suit) so I'attempt to summarise

1. The CSA was nothing but courteous friendly and helpful.
2. I do spend $"000s per annum flying and QF would get about 25% of that
3. To repeat I have been Gold or Silver for more than a decade except for the last year ands was merely asking if an offer I had been made in the past (it was double SCs) was possible again.

I did not expect the QF loyalty argument to become the thread.

I will not fly anywhere I dont get points, so no JQ too uncomfortable anyway.

I am and will always be a QP member.

I will make my final domestic decisions this year on price between QF and DJ.

I made a polite request and was politely declined, end of issue.
