Has anyone registered for an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account within the last 2 years and has been successful in purchasing miles with a credit card that has an Australian billing address?

Back in 2014, Alaska froze out Australian credit cards from purchasing miles due to issues with fraudulent transactions (can't hyperlink as I don't meet the minimum post, but the article was published by Australian Business Traveller). I have read in a number of threads across multiple forums (including AFF and Point Hacks) that new accounts after 2014 have not being able to purchase miles if they do not have a credit card with a US billing address. This is the same experience my sister and cousin encountered when they attempted to buy miles during a promotion in 2015.

Can anyone confirm that they have been able to purchase miles with an Australian credit card that has an Alaska Mileage Plan account registered after 2014? If so, which credit card did you use, or was it through Paypal (which I heard used to be able to get around the problem, but apparently not anymore...)?

Hi Hiveous,

This doesnt answer your question but can hopefully be of use to you as an alternative for point accumulation.

I assume you are looking to buy Alaskan points? The current 84,000 = 1773.75USD / (~$2296AUD)

As an example right now you can get:

- 20,000 SPG -> 25,000 Alaskan Airlines points for $99 (NB - i have a vested interest as my referral is there, however i think this is the best deal at the moment)

or

- 40,000 SPG -> 50,000 Alaska points - $400 ( i have no vested interest as i missed the larger initial signon bonus of 55,000 SPG)

Cheers

Hi Locopano

Thank you for the response. I will need more points than that as the aim is to redeem for a flight to North America. However, that still remains a viable solution for a top up if I'm short a few points.

Anyone able to chime in on whether they've bought Alaska Miles on a recently registered account?

hi - i can't really help. i signed up for my account before 2014 and can use my australian credit card to buy points.

there was a time where you couldn't use an australian credit card to buy points, then it was lifted (but i didn't know the carve out for the post 2014 accounts)
