Hi,

I am a new member, came across this site while searching for some info. can anyone help me regarding a doubt that I had.

I heard that you cant buy alcohol from Thailand if your flight is to Australia. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, I have a stopover in Malaysia. Does this affect me buying alcohol from Thailand (can I keep the alcohol that I bought in Thailand in the sealed bage, and take it with me when I leave Malaysia.

Thanks & cheers

Greetings greenday.

I think you'll find this relates to the LAG carry-on restrictions. If over 100ml it'll need to be packed in your checked luggage for the sector into Australia (assuming you're happy to risk it being damaged during baggage handling).

If your so inclined, you could buy duty free at KLIA and they will pack it so the receipt can be read from the outside of the bag and they'll let you fly with it.

Thanks for the info.
Does that mean Df thailand dont pack it in a way that receipt can been seen without opening it. Also I dont have a domestic sector in Australia. So will LAG be still a problem, as internationally it is not.

Thanks

I have a feeling the transit at KUL is going to be the problem here. DF Alcohol purchased at KL can be carried on. They will drop it off at the gate just prior to boarding.
I know at KL they can be cough about these things. It may just mean that if you have the time you may need to break customs and immigration to check in your purchases from coughet.
I take it you are either flying D7 or MH? It may be best to contact them

greenday has not indicated if the KL transit is at the main KLIA terminal (i.e. flying with MH to Australia) or at the LCC Terminal (i.e. flying with Air Asia X). Does this gate delivery service apply to both the KLIA main terminal and LCC terminal?

Sorry NM I am only aware about the main terminal. I haven't flown D7.

I am Sorry! Beginners mistake :) I should have given more info.

I am flying Air Asia throughout (coughet - Kl, & Kl- OOL). Also I have a 2 day stopover in KL (29th -31st). I am not even sure if LCC even has a duty free (I have never been there before)

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice so far

Cheers

Reading a TR in the West Travel magazine today, it does suggest that there is duty free outlets at the KL LCC.
Having 2 days in KL definately means that you can not carry on your alcohol purchased in Thailand. However if you pack correctly, it should not be a problem as part of your checked in luggage
