Hi people

I'm 99% sure of the answer, but can someone confirm that there is no problem buying Duty Free alcohol (pre-ordered) on arrival in SYD, and then taking them as carry on for a connecting flight to MEL?

I've never had a problem with this. Should be fine.

A supplementary question-does SYD have a "collect on arrival" duty free store? Can't seem to find one by browsing.

The underlying question seems to relate to LAGS. Not an issue on domestic flights in Australia so enjoy your alcohol, :)

Yes ... before immigration ... you do need to remember (after a possibly long flight) that you did place an order.

As long as it's a domestic flight (i.e. operates out of a domestic terminal), it's no problem. If it operates from the international terminal then you can't do it.

What flight numbers are you on? Only JQi have international flights that operate domestic tag flights between cities like SYD & MEL. If that's the case you'd lose the duty free when you go through transit security in SYD immediately after you've picked it up on arrival.

As Opusman mentioned above if you're on a flight departing from the domestic terminal ie T2 or T3 your booze, fragrance or other LAGS won't be confiscated.

We flew BKK/MEL/BNE on JQ30/JQ5 and each had a small bottle of chardonnay (courtesy of the lounge) in our buried in our carry on which wasn't picked up at BKK when they do the secondary LAGS check at the gate as they just had a 'boys look' as it's not x-rayed.

Of course MEL transit security on arrival x-ray your carry on so it was picked up in both our bags so we had to surrender it as we initially forgot about the international transit thing in MEL, however the upside was we could use the F Lounge in MEL prior to JQ5 which made up for it. Swings and roundabouts. :p

We're arriving in SYD on QF 64 from Joburg, then QF 455 to MEL.
