Maybe Amex is still paying for the mass issuance of points after the 5000 points per 5 transactions uncapped "promotion"?

Possibly :)

Although, all these changes seem to have started coming after they changing Managing Directors at Amex back in January.

I think they are paying more than a cent a point so that would hurt.

Got a letter from Amex this morning - opening I was thinking here we go, my Ulti card is about to drop from 1.5 per $. Anyway, it was just confirmation that the travel insurance was being "enhanced" :!:

BTW, the letter re-inforced the 1.5 per $ is still a go:D

Which specific Amex product?

Yes I got told Ultimate was not changing. Free flight knocks out the annual fee for me and I have always had Chubb for the best insurance cover rather than the Amex cover.

I was going to be dropping from my Platinum Charge Card to a reserve or Edge. if I find that we're going to have rewards revised downwards, then I'm going to be cancelling all cards and transferring my points out to QF and SPG very quickly and that will be the last I will ever deal with Amex. There is no benefit any more. No travel insurance, reduced rewards, ongoing surcharges at merchants. It'll be time to grab the Citibank Select Card and be done with Amex forever (and then I can stop juggling cards - yay!)

Beardoc that will be a journey that only about 2,000 have made successfully so Citi Select is way more exclusive than Amex Centurion! Remember that there are two.....one for QF points and one for other points that are not Qantas.
2 Citi Business cards For QF could earn at a 1.25 points per dollar and you could do 2 lots of 250,000 when the Citi Select QF card is an uncapped 1.0 point per dollar.

I have ranked my cards this way:
Citi Select Kris Visa
Citi Select QF Visa
Woolworths EDR MasterCard
Amex Ultimate
Westpac Platinum Amex Kris
Westpac Platinum Amex Altitude
in that order
