Sorry anat0l, no I was still in J in the cabin between Y+ and Y, and the power to the seat, meaning the seat wouldn't operate, no power.

Thanks

You did get upgraded to BA F, right?

I don't see how a nit wit could possibly invade into your space on BA F. That doesn't make any bl**dy sense at all. Seriously...
No upgrade to F - that was clear - so it does make sense.
...
As for the ying-yang arrangement in Club World (J), yeah that has a polarising effect. I don't mind it, except it's always better if you get a seat where no one has to cross over you, or you don't have to cross over someone else. And of course upper deck is always quieter than lower deck (it is also much more difficult to get a seat allocation in upper deck, for just this reason).
...
BA can fit 8 across in business using the yin/yang layout. The fact is that (aside from rear bulkheads) there are no such seats.

It's even worse with this in that (aside from bulkheads) those in the middle have to climb out over those on the inner aisle.

I had to re-read the original text to realise my mistake. Sorry, but in the end what that reduces down to is that our esteemed traveler was gypped out of an upper deck seat that he had in the first place. I would hope he was merely displaced by another elite, and it would have to be a BA Premier, QF CL or BA GGL, otherwise that's seriously bad form.

I did not sit in such a seat when I flew BA CW but the seat "in front" of me was empty. Hence I did not have to climb over anyone (I was in 10E).

The rear bulkheads are most coveted and usually blocked for BA Golds only. On the main deck, they are also the bassinet seats.

Great reading, sorry to hear about that terrifying taxi experience. I agree completely about BA upstairs CW. I always ask for 62A/K and the QF premium desk can usually allocate it.

Mentioned here a few posts back i ask Does a CL have any special status on a BA flight?

My instinct says no, they are special to QF only and are classed as OWE on OW carriers, at differing levels of recognition.

CX being the highest I have experienced.

Haven't flow BA for sometime though they seem to look after their own elites in typical pommie fashion. I haven't been able to enter their FLlounges for example traveling QF J as OWE.

Comments or corrections anyone?

Never had a problem with F lounge access, they are v strict on guest rules though esp at T5. I did have a few problems accessing J lounge when I was QPNB, dragons conferred and phoned a friend before allowing me in ;)

Just to clarify, the power supply to the seat had died, ie no seat movement, IFE etc. That's why me and 3 others were moved. I would expect each row is suppled as 4, hence 4 seats went unusable. No one trumped me in this case ;)

Would BA UG in the case there were no J seats left??

QF for that matter???

Presumably if it came to operational circumstances, then yes. Otherwise, if the plane was not full and they didn't do op-ups, they'd have to ask for volunteers for denied boarding. Not likely to happen.

Of course, if there were BA Premiers or Golds (esp. GGLs) on the flight, they would (read: should) get op-upped first before our esteemed author.

Anyone want to have a go at this one?

I think the answer is 'no', but I'd thought I'd throw that in.

I used to remember a chart that BA lounge dragons used as their "cheat sheet", and I think it mentioned that if you are a QF CL, you could access the CCR irrespective of travel class (but you must be flying BA).

I haven't been able to enter their FLlounges for example traveling QF J as OWE.

If you are talking about the Concorde Room (CCR), that is not a oneworld F Lounge, and hence does not entitle a OWE to enter it under the oneworld rules. CCR access is only granted to those flying BA F.

OTOH you should be entitled to access any other designated First lounges (i.e. level of lounges above Club lounges but not Concorde Rooms).

CL used to have access to the T4 arrivals lounge and were able to have a guest when travelling QF/BA; WP had no guest privileges. Like WP no access unless travlling QF/BA.

CL could have two guests in the CR or FL when travelling QF/BA, only one when on other oneworld carriers.

This was probably due to the JSA.

Just remember that relates to the old T4. It may be different these days with T5/T3.

Thanks for the great VN memories munitalP.

We were always getting ripped off by the taxi drivers. Not quite to your level though.

On the ground in VN certainly gives a different version of the Vietnam conflict than we hear in Oz. A random crashed B52 in the middle of a city is rather poignant.

Great trip report and also brings home the difficulties of business travel.
