Can a Business class passenger visit economy class passengers during a long Qantas long haul flight?

I thought QF didn't like you using the rear stairs on the A380

On my last flight on QF1 in July, I was in whY on the lower deck and noticed the rear stairs were barricaded at the top by a fancy fence arrangement. No idea about front stairs.

Have never seen the forward stairs blocked off. Have seen many a CSM stick their head out of their 'office' though as I've passed by.

That's a safety thing (at least I was told that when in Y upstairs and needing to go downstairs). But that explanation does seem strange given no such device on the front stairs.

I'm not sure how much they like you using the rear stairs, but I've certainly used them a number of times when seated upstairs and wanting to visit below. Just open and close the gate on the way through.

I was once told that QF had a cart do an escape manoeuvre down the stairs hence the gates, but I have no idea if that's true.

They certainly did have a cart escape there, which is why the barricade latch was upgraded shortly after the aircraft came into service.

Passengers aren't supposed to be opening it, but cabin crew probably will if you need to go downstairs.

Husband was in first on QF1 I was in business (I gate crashed his trip )
I wanted to go so hello (not quite sure why ) and I was emphatically informed I was not permitted in the first cabin .
They would pass along the information that his wife would like to see him .
Actually got the impression that they wouldn't be surprised if he didn't want to "slum " in business lol

Last trip I had to LAX and back, I walked up to the rear stairs and there was a crew member nearby. She happily showed me how to unlatch and relatch the gate and said it was no problem to be going up and down, since there is only one bathroom upstairs and sometimes a bit of a wait.

It does seem to depend on the staff member though. On the way home one staff member who I didn't see again told me off for using the stairs. I proceeded to use them again later in the flight observed by other staff members who didn't bat an eye.

I hope not. In cattle class, the distractions are so many, the last thing you need is someone from Biz adding to the cacophony. And the second-last thing you need in Biz is the person from Biz returning to his or her seat just when you were finally nodding off.
So, John, don't do it.

I was flying in Y on an A380 on the top deck at the back which is also Y. No probem in using the stairs as the snack bar is downstairs. Also on another flight was moved to a free back row downstairs and asked if I could come back upon arival as it is quicker to leave from the top deck than back of bottom deck. No problem.

If you're nice to the CSM (and have decent status and/or in First), more than once I've managed to get the ok to invite one or two more junior colleagues in Y up to the A380 biz lounge for a few early flight drinks...

Considering it's hardly used by actual J or F flyers, I've never felt bad about it.

Be good when the new bar is put upstairs in the nose of the QF 380s.

About 2 decades ago I had 2 business class seats and 2 economy seats for our family of four. I was supposed to swap and didn’t.
I have been reminded about this mistake for what seems like 5 decades.

As you should be reminded of, and often. :)

Have not repeated that mistake BAM1748. We are flying today and I have Mrscove on the A330 in business class and I have a seat there too.

My Ex would bring me down a chocolate or if I was really good desert when he was flying in J and I was down the back. Perhaps there is a reason he is my Ex lol

yes I would never travel with a companion (romantic or otherwise) in a different class to me (unless there was like a last minute op up or something in which case I think I'd offer it to her if possible-if it was given to ME tha is lol). I don't think that's polite behaviour. Maybe if it was a work thing that would be different.. but I've always flown with friends and ensured they were in the same cabin. I sure as heck would not put a partner in a class below me if possible

I've been lucky with the very few op-ups I've had on QF when flying with my partner - no need to choose as we were both were. The only problem now is, they're disappointed when we aren't . . . 🤣🤣
