I had to make 2 separate reservations on Emirates and Qantas, as Emirates don't fly from Tasmania.
Is there a way I can request the 2 reservations be linked?šŸ˜Š
Thankyou!

They can put a note in one booking to indicate thereā€™s another follow-on booking. But itā€™s not a bright red flashing light or anything. The agent needs to look for it, or at least be advised to look for it.

Thereā€™s not a lot of benefit to linking bookings. You can do exactly the same thing at check-in on the day. At the first check-in you say you have an inwards flight to ā€˜xyzā€™ and hand them the booking reference or itinerary or whatever you have.

That way, if bags can be checked through - and sometimes they canā€™t - the agent will check them through, And if possible, the agent will issue you the inward boarding pass.

Not much advantage in ringing to get the linking done prior to departure.

On Emirates web site looked for HBA-DXB
Offered flights QF then EK in 1 PNR - ticket
May not work from all Tasmania airports

QF will interline bags on separate reservations
QF to QF
QF to EK
QF Oneworld where 1 flight is an award
Why do you want linked reservation? Depends what you consider "linked" is or does.

Probably in terms of protection from delays. But why would an airline do this without adding in cost due to the potential risk in doing this?
Linked reservations wonā€™t give you protection. But it might indicate to the airline that they have ā€˜xā€™ number of connecting passengers. If that number is big enough, they may hold the flight for a short time.

Linked reservations wonā€™t give you protection
So if you have made two separate bookings A-B & B-C, then get them linked. But the first flight A-B is delayed and you miss the second B-C, it's just tough luck ? as opposed to having bought it as a single ticket from A-C ?

Thank you for the replies. I wanted to link the reservations in the event of delays.

Yes. With separate PNR's all the risk is with the passenger. No protection if the first flight is delayed. Up to the goodwill on the 2nd airline, which is likely to be nil

Thanks, confirms what I've always thought. When people ask why A-C is more expensive than A-B and B-C, this is why.

Yep. Effectively insurance.
The main airline [~EK] buying a ticket on the 2nd [~QF] (codeshare or native) may not be buying at the lowest price compared to an online pax.

If it had been an option to purchase a single ticket from A-C I would indeed have done so.

There is no such thing as ā€œLinkedā€. If they are seperate PNRā€™s thatā€™s it. independent of each other. On other websites I see people trying and advising they have linked bookings (PNRā€™s). But itā€™s not true - you are not protected in case of cancellations etc

You can link them! A message is put in one booking referring to the other. But it doesnā€™t do much except provide the onward flight for bag tagging and boarding pass purposes.
