Hi all
I will be flying SIN-MEL-AKL. Land in MEL at around 6am and dept at 12.
So, can I transit to the lounge and have breakfast, then leave the airport around 10, meet a friend for coffee, then go back through immigration?

Not easily. You need a good reason to exit from the international airside departures area.

I have managed it once in SYD.

You can of course exit from the international arrivals first and return later.

Border Force will not be happy if you do this and the airline will make you take your bags with you most likely.

I have seen people allowed to leave when flights have lengthy delays, but it's been orchestrated with the airline / lounge staff. Yours would be calculated and just for convenience. I'd not risk it or bother. If meeting friend is important then exit fully, meet earlier then re-enter as Austman suggests. As long as you are entitled to enter Australia, I believe that'd be OK.

Sounds like too hard basket, so a long shower, a walk and another champagne
