Can I leave airport during layover

I have qf flight SYD - HKG arriving 6pm

And then CX HkG - LHR leaving 1am 7 hrs later.

Different tickets, but have linked the PNR so should be able to check in for both flights in SYD.

Will I be able to leave the airport for a few hours if I check my luggage all the way to LHR?


As nice as 7 hours would be in the new pier, might be a bit too lunch of a good thing!

Yes you can. I've done SIN-SFO on SQ with 5 hr layover at HKG (lack of availability on through flight award seats!) and left airport and caught bus to Tung Chung and back. No dramas. But I did have APEC card which expedited immigration. Even with immigration queues 7 hours should be fine.

The quickest way into Hong Kong is the Airport Express Train., about 30 mins. 100HKD same day return or 90HKD one way. Airport station is on the far side of the Arrivals Hall

You will have enough time to take the train to Central and take a Star Ferry trip across the harbour. At that time you could also check out the light show on the city buildings from Kowloon.

Yes.

If your connecting flight had been an hour earlier you could have also had your Hong Kong departure tax refunded to pay for your trip to town (HKD120). Unfortunately you're departing 'next day'

I should have done this last trip.

I had bought 2 separate tickets to depart HKG but both times I was in transit from another ticket on the same day. I was going to research it but for some reason decided against it. Perhaps the time I had in transit in HKG was short.

You probably need a clear hour to complete the process if you can't rely on e-channel. With e-channel you could safely do it in about 30 minutes (most of that time being for security to get back airside).
