Can Qantas still be classed as a truly 'International' Airline?

Struggling to see thai as an alternative to emirates. Sure no upgrade on emirates, but at least there are lounges and some level of status recognition. Seat selection is do-able. The other thing is that you can qantas on the long leg, with upgrade chance, and then emirates on the short leg to paris or madrid.
Would be interested to hear the reasons thai is considered an alternative. Does the OP have star status?

Yes, if it were me boycotting QF/EK, I'd be looking at CX or QR. You've also got JL but bit of a dogleg to get to Europe. The oneworld benefits are not to be scoffed at, even if you can't upgrade (I've been op-upgraded more times on BA international than I have on QF).

Not for much longer. Soon, to travel on a single stop service to continental Europe from eastern Australia, for most ports* none of the journey will be on QF metal. Of course there will be the two stop services via PER/LHR or SIN/LHR.

* probably are some destinations that are single stop, by taking QF codeshare from Asia, but only get QF on the "short leg", eg QF code on AY to HEL connecting in SIN.

Cathay is the choice there I think. Better lounges at Hong Kong for status holders.

On the OP's subject, would be great to see some more QF destinations in Europe. But realistically, the most I think we will ever see is Paris, Frankfurt and London.

If you want to look at a sad international route map look at QF out of Perth for last 5 or so years....

And if TK ever get their act into gear we may see another European carrier flying direct to Australia sometime soon...

I love it, but don't like the aircraft and the schedule they use to get us there...

coughpola of a plane that they bring back after shutting up shop completely for a period, no wonder people of Perth aren't beating a path back to them... And the odd A330 to AKL in holidays...
